    [Painter X] Custom brush help

Well, to start, I am verrry new at Painter. I am trying to paint some hair on a portrait, so I made a custom brush. Worked fine, just like using an airbrush, only with a bunch of hairlike lines instead of one stream. Of course, I didn't know how to save the brush, so the next time I load the program I need to make another brush. This time I have actually figured out how to save brushes, so I make a bunch of them and put them in a folder called "Hair." I did everything EXACTLY THE SAME as previously, and yet my new brushes don't have an airbrush look at all. They look more like felt pens, where if I apply a lot of pressure, the color is basically black, and if I apply light pressure, the color is lighter, brighter, translucent, but nothing like the color it's supposed to be.

The brush I'm using right now has these settings:
    Opacity: 41%
    Resat: 21%
    Bleed: 0%

I've tried playing around with those settings, but it doesn't change much (except for opacity, of course). What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the parameters in Window > Brush Controls > General? It sounds like Method might be set to Build Up.

That's exactly it! Lol, I thought that was what it was supposed to be! I changed it to "cover" and it works great. Thanks so much!

I'm telling you this from memory (at work) so it might not be right. When you create the brush and then look up at the Brush selecter, there's a black arrow to the right of the name of the brush. If you click on it it gives you a list of options. One of them lets you capture (or save) the brush. You can rename it here and not have to remake it later.

Also, there's the custom pallettes. You can drag your brush off the Brushes area and a new pallette will be created where you can story your favorite Brushes, papers and whatnot.
