Futures looking fine, if a little boring right now . Yeah gestures, I ordered some new sketchbooks, smaller ones, so hopefully it will push me to draw more from my head and outside.

So started a sketchbook specifically for life drawing and intend to fill it with nothing but. Here's the start so far. Drawing people directly in front of you is hard when they move about, all the time, even worse when your sketching workers. Yet it still feels so much better than drawing from photos, you take in much more. I'm enjoying it.

Many of them look like men but are actually women in their baggy work clothes..I found that with them moving so often I end up filling in a lot of it from memory, good practice I guess but...not looking so hot right now.

Looks to me like you're concerning yourself with facial features and folds in the clothes too early. make sure you get the gesture first, that's the most important thing. You can add details later, and if they move but you've already drawn a strong psoe you can still draw them pretty nicely from memory/imagination. maybe try caricaturing them too? I don't think you should go for extremely accurate and detailed drawings if you're not in a life drawing class, people move too much anyway.

This is the part where I post a bunch of animators' blogs

this guy's great at quick gestures
this blog has some nice cafe sketches on the first page oand earlier ones
    here's soem nice ones too
oh man these make me realize I shoudl really get out and draw people more often too o_o

ha ha I hope those are helpful or something, glad you're posting again

Hey thanks for stopping by Vert Aaaaaaaaaand you got me, I can't seem to help myself, I have a hard time resisting those glorious details, but I'll work on it more and try to concentrate on the gesture first. Thanks for the links to, I'll go check them out.

It's always nice when you stop by.

Nice, seems like your gestures are improving a lot already. I like the confidence in some of your lines, where it looks like the first one you put down is the line you wanted (something I need to practice.) Nice to see all the pre-work done for the painting, looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Hi, yeah it sure feels like I'm relaxing more with my gestures and slowly getting more and more down each time, I'll be taking my sketchbook again this week and seeing what i can get down. I thought it was time I tried to do a painting. I don't have high hopes for it but, I think I need to see where I'm at right now.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Here's another big dump including 1 unfinished self portrait, 1 screen cap study done in painter, a value study, some skulls, and a bunch off doodlies and a few life drawings. Also a few rough characters done in painter for my writer friend. Got a knack for writing, not so much drawing, as she repeatedly reminds me :p.

lovely Hampton studies! And I gotta say your portraits are really getting better each time you post, I probably should start doing a 100 set of them. I'm sure as you continue studying heads and the structure of it, they will become more solid.
I like these life drawing you do of people as well, wish I could be able to it but I'm afraid people start giving me a weird look or something.
I love those sketched you draw with pen
    keep it up

Hey thanks for stopping by, it's nice to hear my heads are getting better, tho they still need lots of work. I'll start doing more self portraits. About the life drawing, I was worried about the same thing but so far everyone where I've been drawing has been really good about it. They come and have a look at my sketches and some really seem to enjoy seeing themselves. What I'd suggest is finding a quieter place to start, someplace where the people will be concentrating on something else and find a nice corner to sit in. Local library maybe. So long as your not gawking at them too obviously it should be ok. I kind of watch them out the corner of my eye if I'm worried I'll get caught.

Either way, give it a shot, it's a lot of fun

Nice skulls, especially the top two! People walking up while you're drawing? Wow that would make me so nervous, I'd start drawing block letters or something until they left. =P

Well it's been a while since my last post, but that doesn't mean I haven't been chipping away at my art. The problem I now face is whether to drop it in one big art dump or to trickle it out over a few posts. I'm going to go with one big dump to get it out the way.

I find looking back through my sketchbook that I'm really disappointed with my lack of progress, and I know that if I'm ever going to improve and get my art to the level I truly want its going to take a lot more focus on my part. I currently feel like every time I'm on the cusp of improvement I lose my motivation and backslide rapidly. My life however is currently taking a turn for the better and I'm hoping this reflects in my ability to keep my art drive going.

But enough of all here's mostly what I've been up to in my absence, really trying to focus on improving my understanding of the body, so I hope its starting to show in slightly more solid people. I'm also starting to branch out into environments trying to bring some freshness to my studies.

So here it is and I'll see you all around.
