my dear and respected colleagues and friends !! Since I'll have the significant honor to also be an instructor at the MADE workshop in Berlin, I thought it would be nice to make an update and participate to the overall great vibes around this exceptional event.
1st pic was a good way to try and pour a bit more of my love for abstract painting into my more illustrative art than I usually do.
Pallas - watercolor + gouache + photoshop tweeks
next was supposed to be a cover but the image was finally refused. Nonetheless, I liked the art so I decided to remix it as a Valkyrie fanart.
and last but not least, it's been months since the Merlin book is out in france and I realize I never showed anything on CA ! WTF ?!
the cover / collab with Aleksi of course
with all my consideration,
I hope to meet you guys in June, at the MADE in Berlin natürlich !
yours truly Rope
---------------------
I'm re-reading Robert E. Howard these days, so I had to do a couple of Conan fan-arts... if I have more time I'll try a Bran mak Morn piece next
that one's a quickie, I just had to draw his famous sword move.
This is a cover I did for Richard Morgan's Steel Remains. It's not Conan related but I thought it could fit:
hugs to Coro, Mel, Andrew and Dobsky ! I had a blast seeing you again in Berlin my friends.

Happy New Year CAorgians ! I can't believe 2010 is already there.
I spent the last 6 months touring around France to showcase my book Merlin with my buddy Aleksi, and now that i'm back to my desk I find out that I didn't show anything more personal on this board for ages. Let's fix it.
I am currently working on the (not so) sequel of Merlin. The codename is Avalon, and I'm working on it all alone (text + illos + graphic design). I'm currently in the writing process but I began painting things too, in order to keep my ideas clear on this project, and also to stimulate my creativity. I can't resist to share a couple spoilers with you:
the book will be more pagan / cosmic / ecology oriented than Merlin, and also a bit darker.
Now for some more candies.
First comes a piece I did for the Venus Robotica exhibition in Paris at le Cabinet des Curieux gallery:
the sketch:
more infos here: http://cabinetcurieux.com/cariboost1/
This is a personal piece that I proposed to über-talented doll artist Virginie Ropars:
She did a brilliant work translating my 2D designs (look at the hair !) into the 3D world. The sculpture /doll is 1 meter tall !

different novel covers:
a "bit-lit" one for Succubus Blues by excellent Richelle Mead.
another cover I did for Tor Books that I never showed:
this is Cheree Furiosa (the mascot @ Les Furieux), I think I didn't show them here (sorry if it's a re-post):
some speedies / quickies / rough:
I did that one one night I couldn't sleep. Now I can see the Kekai Kotaki inspiration, but I wasn't conscious of it while painting. Big up anyway sir![]()
and a POP illo that was supposed to serve for marketing purpose but that finally was never showed (too dark maybe... of maybe too ugly ?)
and this is mostly it. All I have to tell you now is wish you all the best for this year to come, all the success, all the love, all the health...
