My gosh, this is really good. I love the angle you have him in. Totally creepy! Lovecraft would have loved him. I also think that what you did with the base was brilliantly narstie. He looks so cold and dark and wet and froggie.
    Great job!

Do I see another Lovecraft fan?

This guy's awesome. I actually just read "The Shadow over Innsmouth" again the other day. He fits the story perfectly.

I think this is more the full blown deep one look, rather than the Innsmouth look excellent detail and great subject matter. I also like the base a nice touch! Always great to see fellow Lovecraft fans in the artistic field.

Thanks for you kind comment guys. I have been on a trip for the last two week without internet access and it nice to come home to this kind of response. I am glad to see there are more Lovecraft fans. I am always starved for Cthulhu mythos artwork so I wanted to create some of my own. I hope to do more soon.

Here is a WIP and a picture for scale comparison.

TeaMonster - yes I am casting. Inspiration for this piece was H.P. Lovecraft's Shadow over Innsmouth. I will post a WIP. It depends on the day...... I think I like blue today.

So did I! For some reason it looks a lot bigger in the other pictures. Maybe because of the amount of detail?

Brilliant. Good expression on the face, and the base really completes it. It reminded of the Gill Man from the old movies after he got old and gained weight.

Thank for the complements, they are much appreciated.

I have been dapbling around with a few paint variations,. Here is one in faux bronze that I thought you might enjoy. there are more photos here http://www.monstercaesar.com/page0/page1/page1.html . I am doing a more realistic paint up but, I am not a very good at that sort of thing so it may take some time.

Also if anyone in interested, I do have casting available on my website store.

    Cheers

That paint job is really cool, it looks like an antique bronze statue (like something you'd find on display at Miskatonic University, perhaps!) but it also looks like it could be a natural skin colour.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the complements.

Camara- The paint process is relatively simple as for as paint jobs go.

1- Spray with black primer, I used Citadel Chaos black.
2 - Dry on brush bronze paint. I had cheap crapy bronze paint from walmart.
3 - Add teal paint washes, one high saturation for key areas and a low saturation for everything else. Just normal acrylic paint. Done.

The only real challenge is to create a sense of randomness with the paint washes. I usually get around the eyes and other focal points, helps them pop with contrast but other than that, just slather it on.

Eff me! I went out and spent $44 on a kit for making a sculpture look like it was bronze, included some bizarre toxic chemical that causes it to form the green patina, etc. FAIL. I've gotten too comfortable in my employment, gave up too easily on cheap short-cuts.

Anyway, awesome piece of work amigo. I think I'll go back and read some lovecraft this weekend. Kudos!

Nice paint job, I wouldn't have thought of that color choice but it actually works great, pale and ancient. Is that airbrushed or what?

Christopher Genovese - Thanks. The painting was done with a combination of air brush and good ol'fashioned paint brush.
