    The Art Department: Discovery

    Everyone,

This coming Monday, ConceptArt.Org and The Illustration Academy are going to be announcing The Art Department education program which will start this coming June. Below you will find the release, shared here first, so you can get a good idea about what we have been building this past year. The website will go live just prior to the release and we will begin sharing information on the two million dollar scholarship program.

To kick things off we are opening up a five week online course series available only here on conceptart.org. We are going to be covering an incredible amount of information and sharing a comprehensive overview of the program for any professional, student or hobbyist who wishes to better their portfolio. Students and professionals will be learning with a select group of the Core Instructors in The Art Department. More information will be coming available over the weekend and throughout the next two weeks.

We have much to share and we hope that you everyone interested will be able to attend the live or On Demand programs. We are working to take care of the cost of running this community while at the same time improving opportunity and education here. CA is growing up. Our goal of being the best place to learn art online is in our hands. Join us for art. Learn with the community. See your growth. We are here to help and are thankful for all the support. More to come shortly!

Plz check page 3 of this thread as well as the others for a host of great info including instructor client lists, galleries, and other helpful information.

    Truly,

    Jason Manley

CONCEPTART.ORG AND THE ILLUSTRATION ACADEMY LAUNCH
    PROGRESSIVE ART EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Art Department Offers Career-driven Alternative to Traditional Art Education and
    Two Million Dollars in Scholarships

SAN FRANCISCO – January 11, 2010 - Internationally acclaimed online art community, ConceptArt.org, today announced that it has teamed up with the award winning Illustration Academy (http://www.illustrationacademy.com), and its Visual Literacy Program (http://www.visualliteracyprogram.com) to offer a new alternative to standard art and design colleges, starting with a five-week introductory course series in February 2010 (http://www.theartdepartment.org). The February series marks the creation of ConceptArt.org’s newest accomplishment, The Art Department (TAD). Together with the Illustration Academy, they have assembled an innovative art education program, combining real world and online learning with hands-on workshops led by industry icons. In efforts to make art education more accessible, a stunning two million dollar international scholarship program will also be available to students based on talent and financial need.

Designed as the web’s first community site to learn art online and provide exposure for its members to gain industry attention, ConceptArt.org has reached out to millions of artists around the world through their innovative art and design symposiums (http://www.conceptart.org/workshop) and online, live-streaming classes. Its members, learning within the community and discovered by companies like Marvel, Massive Black, and Epic Games, have gone on to impact the world of art and entertainment. The Illustration Academy has gained much notoriety with the creation of their Visual Literacy Program and for its immersive educational workshops known for bringing up some of the most influential artists of the last 15 years.

“The ability to have first look access at jobs from the field is unique to TAD, as is our ability to expose worthy students to the thousands of companies who participate in our online community,” said Jason Manley, co-founder of The Art Department and ConceptArt.Org. “Members from companies like Disney, Harmonix, MTV, Blizzard, ILM, Pixar, Sony, Weta Digital, and more visit us weekly. Most will hire artists at one time or another and we get our students in front of the companies they want to work for, at a level never before seen in education.”

“The Art Department’s Illustration faculty has received more industry awards than all of the other Illustration Departments in art schools combined,” said John English, co-founder of the Illustration Academy. “Our instructors have done everything from covers of Time Magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and Rolling Stone, to the murals covering the walls of Barnes and Noble. For the last four decades, the faculty has helped to establish the course of illustration history. Students who want the truth about the professional world of art will finally have direct access to it. TAD offers an alternative to the traditional degreed art education programs and several ways for artists to grow and improve.”

Taught by some of today’s leading professionals, TAD gives students the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to succeed in life, business and art. Upon completion of the program, students tap directly into the conceptart.org traffic lines where their work will be shared with professionals from throughout the entertainment, art, and design industries.

Along with Illustration and Entertainment Design, TAD is running an in-depth foundations program and a traditional drawing based painting department, which artists learn to develop what they see, understand nature, and learn to create from imagination using traditional media like oil paint, charcoals, graphite, and water color. TAD mixes the traditional with the digital world and will help artists in nearly every country of the world.

Professionals from leading creative companies like Massive Black, Inc. (http://www.massiveblack.com) will be working with TAD to bring the most relevant industry information to students who wish to work in the entertainment industry.

The five-week series in February is suited for all students, from beginner to professional. Attended by artists and instructors from across the globe, the series will serve as a crash course of the full program offered by TAD.

    About The Art Department
Founded in late 2009 to provide relevant art education and peerless opportunities for aspiring artists, the Art Department is a new breed of art school focused on delivering the actual life, business and art skills needed to be successful in the creative and entertainment industries. The Art Department has more award winning instructors and greater access to the decision makers than any art program ever conceived and is focused on real skills that lead to employment opportunities. Cool, thanks for the update. $500 is a very good price. I don't know if I'll be able to afford it, but I'll try. Just one question: I'm not sure yet, but I'm leaning towards waiting one year before entering TAD... will that $500 still be deductable if I join TAD in future years?

$500 sounds pretty good, basically five weeks of streaming classes plus $25. This starts up right when the spring semester starts up so I hope I won't be too busy to participate.

    I can't wait.

Holy shit. I'm sorry to any art colleges out there, but I'd take this bargain deal over any over priced tuition ANY DAY.

Very reasonable price, and looks amazing. It is, of course, smack dab in the middle of school, but this is too good to pass up.

Thanks again for all you're doing! Looking forward to more details.

Yup, I'll definitely be doing this. I think it's a great idea to do this 5 week course. Because while I'm interested in getting into TAD, I want to make sure before I commit to anything that the online component is something I'll be able to learn from. This looks like a great way to learn and see how TAD is going to work out. Thanks for putting this together Jason and crew.

And it looks like I'll have to dig the paints and brushes out of the closet...this is gonna be a mind bender.

Ow, I just cannot find the time in the spring - if only it had been in April or later, I would have liked to join. VERY fair price and it sounds really cool.

Please answer me this, Jason, is this planned as a one-time event? Can I and the other people who aren't able to join because of school or whatever, hope for another chance later?
It sounds like it'll be on-demand as well, so one could potentially go for that and follow the course when able, but it's not quite the same thing...

I'm sure you'll address this, but I just think it would be cool if in the actual program there would be a way to choose a program of study (such as illustration) yet also take "electives" from the other programs. Hopefully you'll have something set up to work with that idea. Can't wait to hear more about it

Experience has shown me I'm bad at multitasking, so I will most likely not be attending due to college. The good news is that this is my last semester where I am now, so perhaps I will be able to attend The Art Department in the future. Just have to touch up (read "create") that awesome portfolio...

My only concern is the whole "learning art online" bit - is it really possible? I'm sure you'll address those concerns in the next few weeks, though.

    Sounds awesome!

This looks wonderful! The only drawback is that I probably won't be able to hear what's being said via online seminars unless they're demo-ing the processes. But if they're lectures, I'll most likely have a hard time hearing. It's a great endeavor CA's doing and think they're doing a good thing for the industry to change things up, especially as a challenge to other art schools to show how it's really done properly.

However, the level of inaccessibility for people like me is somewhat there. If this was in person at an actual classroom, I'd pick up on things much better. These are the courses that my art school should have been teaching more than 10 years ago.

Pilgrim, are you hard of hearing?

I have been working on finding solutions to the reality that we must have subtitles for those who have challenges to deal with for anything audio wise. I will ask the others and see if we can find some solution.

Cameras pointed at the mouths of the instructors showing up as miniscreens and a minimum amount of facial hair that covers the lips?
