Seems like it was damn time for me to visit this sketchbook again! I saw some badass things around here. Like your latest picture a lot and that elven fighert girl (?) in #280 is just to cool!
I don't think I have any good crit or advice right now... Looks like you know what you do. So I just enjoy some stuff.
    Keep up the good work!

Back on track? Looks like you are to me!

Love yer film! The color palette is muted and kewl! The movements all look fluid (ie the wind in hair...the crow etc). The gunshot timing is perfect and the ending is interesting....makes me wonder what happens next. View points are cool too...like when looking up at the building...the shooter walking up to the girl in the lightening and rain after she's fallen...his shadow falling across her. Anywho...congrats...I really like it. Signed up with Vimeo just so I could comment there too!

    Have you ever seen tar-boy?

    Glad yer back!

    thanks for stopping by guys!!

well i thought i was back on track but again im feeling slightly numb... cant even do any proper gesture drawings, they all turn out like crap, so not really worht showing, sorry ><

anywho, i decided to try find me some inspiration and remembered matt kohr´s site ctrl+paint and thought i give it a try, did some exercises from his videos...

he also inspire dme to do this hundred-of-something-thing so i started with the heads, since i suck at them the most...i did some in my sketchbook too but my scanner is still packed away.

I'm so glad to hear you like tar-boy too! I've shared that with a lot of peeps and seem to not get much of a reaction...but I think it's perfect!

Diggin your recent studies...especially that last group of pencils.

Dunno what advice to give about motivation. Take a break? Or just push through?

I've heard songwriters say....when they feel uninspired...they go just "live" for a while...so that when they come back to writing they have "material".

OTOH I sketch in public at coffee houses, restaurants and bars etc...and it opens the door to a lot of people coming up and wanting to talk and look at my work. Here on CA I'm at the bottom working my way up...but lotza people when I'm out say the nicest things and tell me how much they like my art. And I even get work sometimes too.

Anyway...all that helps keep me motivated too. So if your not already...that at least might give you something to do...get you out of the house...and have some fun!

Hope you get it all sorted soon!

    Ciao fer now

Hi Ebba! the last drawings are soo nice, and the color characters are top notch! I think you will be a good teacher no doubt! how is it going in that job, btw?

About feeling unmotivated, it also happens to me sometimes, I just go out and walk on nature... it can sound very generic but it really works for me. Go away from the computer and papers is so good. I usually have inspiration looking at nature shapes and trying to imagine things from this shapes, branches, rocks, water, little buildings... You can find a good bunch of storytelling elements out there. Taking a camera to take photos can be fun! Hope it helps you in any way.

Oh and don´t get obsessed with doing lots of studies, I think you must draw what you like most or what makes you feel better/happy, specially when you are stuck. Take a good break can help a lot sometimes

I've found that nothing makes me more creative than having limited time to be creative in. It's really weird. Having all the time in the world means more procrastination and so on. I think it's because we get in a certain groove where we're quite productive with a mixture of things and it carries onto our creativity... it's weird.

Don't worry about taking a break if you have to. If it helps, keep your pencil moving at least a little when you do -- five minutes of gestures a day will keep you practicing even when you're on a break.

It doesn't need to be good. Don't worry about being good. Just draw. Forget the results. Sometimes we need to get all the crap out before the good stuff can come out.

Jephyr X: that sucks, most people i showed it to loved it too
i been trying very few times going out to draw in public places and it never really inspired me or never enjoyed it... maybe i should just keep trying new places till i feel comfortable x)
i should also go out more, take a break from sitting at the pc trying to force some drawings... but its so bloody cold and snowy outside i wish i could just hibernate during winter!
Ricardo Robles: thanks alot man! the job is going okay so far, its actually harder than i thought to try teach kids to draw x) but theyre interested, most of the times, and are doing what im showing them to do hehe!
Umbravita: oh boy that is so true! but its hard to take a break too, i feel almost guilty for not drawing

thanks for your support guys! im trying not to force anything now, i found some open lifedrawing sessions to go too (together with my friend Monkan who you should welcome to CA ) in town but so far one of them been really bad and one is showing promises but is only every second week...

at least im enjoying it, but its really crappy, been experimenting a bit, trying to get away a little from my typical cartoony gestures and trying to draw more...realistic? i guess...its not going well... i noticed after scanning im really loosing control over proportions

Yeah...One day after I discovered Tar Boy on YouTube I went to my illustrator class and thought everyone would love it. You woulda thought I was showing my grandma's vacation pics.

Ahhh...well...I KNEW there were a lot of folks elsewhere who loved it too!

Yes...drawing in public does take some time to get used to...but now I'm in love with it. Like you say it gets me out and away from the pc...so it's good for that. But if yer not into it...then that's understandable too. Plus bad weather will zap you. We're having great weather here now...but in the summer it's crazy hot...so in a few months we'll be broiling.

Anyway...those recent sketches are lookin good...over-all natural poses and energy in 'em. I see some proportion issues with a few...but still some look pretty good too. Sometimes I rather see "life" in gestures than perfection anyway.

    Have a great weekend

i know my sketchbook is really boring and lifeless right now, but thanks so much you guys for stopping by here!

still trying to force some studies here and there, been studying some other cool peoples work lately, trying to learn bits here and there from how they draw and theyre styles etc without stealing it x)

im really inspired by styles like the meek, wakfu, unsounded and lackadaisy, whenevr i drool around over that art i feel super inspired to draw but then i just sit there on an open empty canvas for hours without getting anything out ...makes me sooo....frustrated!! grr

anyway, heres a little bit of sketches and doodles, not much :/

Heyo! Your work is always great to look at! I see a lot of improvement in your character sketches and gestures. Really nice! Your coloring has also improved in that it's much cleaner and sharper. Same goes for your linework. The face studies are interesting to look at as well. Keep it up!

Nice ideas and the usual lovely gal sketches ~
Using a ref but drawing it stylized? I just started to do it, it's so much more fun My figures recently got more flowy and I never forget your sketches played an important part in it SBs like yours help me to forget about anatomy, measurement and thinking that gave me stiff flawy results and much stress for years... They are important but I need balance. I need to get loose and draw floooow and have fun right now
I'm curious how your digital colored gals will look like in the future. Right now, they lose some charm of the original sketches and the colors doesn't always suit them in my totally subjective opinion.

    Heyya rumpenstiltzkin.

I was just reading your posts and it seems like you are pretty down on your work.

It is pretty normal to fall into a funk and hate your stuff,
just don't let it make you quit.

Just keep working as much as you can and you will find something you like about your art soon enough.

Also, I really like the drawings from your figure class.
I would love to see some more people from life, like maybe cafe sketches or something!

Thanks for stopping by my SB, it is always encouraging to have people post.

shiNIN: thanks alot for your super nice words! also i recognize alot you saying! im really struggling with coloring, i know, and i think i have ignored how sucky i am for to long... but im feeling very unsure where to take the next step to improve it
greyskill: thanks for the encouraging words! im still feeling a bit down, but i think im starting to slwoly crawl back up x)
when the weather gets a bit better here i have promised many ppl that i will try go out and draw more people, the park or cafe and stuff like that! i tried a few times on longer bus/tram rides but im a very socially awkward person and having social anxiety isnt really helping me to do things that attracts ppls attention heh x)
digitalphilia, -D_art-: thanks so much guys!

lately i have done some few miserable tries at a more painterly attempt on things, not going to well, i have a hard time getting it i think, esp when it comes to trying to do it on full clothed and detailed characters so any tips and advice how i should approach that better is very much appreciated!
ive gone thru a huge amount of tutorials on painting and stuff, and it looks so easy but im...just not getting it...i think i might be a bit stupid or something

anyways, not much, some studies and the colored one is a wip on a collab with monkan! mine and hers charas having a bitchfight pewpew! (she did the lines, im doing the coloring) feedback/crits on this is highly appreciated
