The Devil is the card of self-bondage to an idea or belief which is preventing a person from growing or being healthy—an example might be a belief that getting drunk each night is good for you. On the other hand, however, it can also be a warning to someone who is too restrained and/or dispassionate and never allows him or herself to be rash or wild or ambitious, which is yet another form of enslavement.

The Devil is the 15th card of the Major Arcana, and is associated with earth and Capricorn. Though many decks portray a stereotypical Satan figure for this card, it is more accurately represented by our bondage to material things rather than by any evil persona. It also indicates an obsession or addiction to fulfilling our own earthly base desires. Should the Devil represent a person, it will most likely be one of money and power, one who is persuasive, aggressive, and controlling. In any case, it is most important that the querent understands that the ties that bind are freely worn.



Basically, I'm doing this just because the Tarot deck is just richly inspirational to draw. to be able to get the chance to design and envision them without sacrificing the intent of the cards to interpret circumstances via symbolism, well, that's my goal. sketches and ideas coming next

In its upright or positive light, the ten of swords represents absolute destruction, being pinned down by a multitude of things or situations. The person lying on the ground, defeated and bleeding, may also represent a feeling of hopelessness and being trapped by emotions or mental anguish, since swords represent strife and the mind.

The Ten of Swords is the most grim card in the deck, more destructive and reminiscent of death than the Death card itself. Again, the dark clouds depicted above the person signify despair and a terribly bleak situation. However, upon closer examination of the images in the card, any real death or destruction, like all things, may not be permanent. There is hope regardless of the situation: the golden sky in the distance suggests that this is the worst the querant's situation could possibly be, and that things will only improve.

In the card's reversed state, it symbolizes a troubling situation that will continue for a significant amount of time. The card suggests that the subject should not despair in difficult times, to avoid ruining future prospects for success.

It's really fun to see how other people think creatively and work processes as well. You gotta love team chow for this! I don't do sketches as often and this has worked for me in the past. I see what I have in mind clearly and paint my way into a piece as I progress. Hope this makes sense.

Holy Shit!
That is just awesome. I like the long neck more and the colourscheme on the right. But I find the wing tips coming into the image disturbing. They do not add anything. I say leave them out!

Updates and wips of Ace of Swords, Death & The Queen of Pentacles

Artofinca : I'm diggin' your empress. I had a suggestion though : there actually is an "empress" butterfly, why not use it as a part of the dress-gear ?

I quite like the blue you've chosen for that part of the costume, so I don't know how you'ld feel about changing the palette to fit the Empress Leilia butterfly wings, but maybe you could just duplicate the patterns and keep the blue hue.

It's a part of the Emperor butterfly family (one of which has blue wings, another purple-blue) so I'm thinking you've probably done your research and are already aware of all of this hehe.

Tommoy Thank you man, I was inspired by your Tower that I decided to throw a version of mine.Not a done deal but it'll be soon. I kinda made a New Year's Resolution(corny! i know!) to paint a whole deck by the end of this year, who knows?
