    Gautham's Sketchbook

    Hi everyone

I'm new to this site.......... I was going through some of the artworks and they are really inspiring........... cant wait to be that good....... my field of intrest is character and creature designing............. it has only been a year since I started drawing seriously and only been 4-5 months since I started digital painting so they might look kind of childish..... I'd be really gratefull if you guys could give me some suggestions to improve my artworks..........

    Good start
Do human anatomy studies and lots of them. Go look at sketchbooks where people do tons of poses and focus on the figure. It will help tremendously.

I second what UmpaArt said. What resources have you been using to practice anatomy? I'd suggest getting your hands on some decent anatomy books (popular authors include Bridgman and Loomis -- you can use the "search" function to look for threads that suggest others) and going through them. In addition to that, try sketching people you see whenever you have time to and/or search for photo references on the internet (deviantart is a good place) and sketch them. This is what I've been doing thus far to improve my anatomy skills (you can check out my sketchbook by clicking the link in my signature if you'd like to see some examples of Bridgman and photo ref studies). Good luck and keep practicing!

Woot creatures! I quite like the one at the end of the first post. The studies are looking good too. Keep it up, you're on the right track!

    Oh hey!

Drawing and Kochi you say? Great! Saw that from Milad's profile page.. Should start a weekly sketch club or something heh.. Good to see you've re-started uploading.. The eyes look great, where are you taking classes in anatomy? You're latest updates have improved since when you've started the sketchbook.. Keep going!

p.s. the alien skull in the third page looks cool.. since the skin's been drawn over the skull, I got wondering about the creature's eyelids, didn't leave space for those?

    Hello! I'm trying to improve my artwork and I really could use your critique - S k e t c h b o o k

hey man thanks for dropping by my sketchbook as for improving your stuff I would say you're on the right path with just constantly studying anatomy and then trying to apply it to your personal work. Best of luck on your studies.
Check out my sketchbook and comment/crit while you're there =)

Hey thanks for the comment on my SB.
You off with some great start here. Good amount of studies, keep doing them. From the last post, I think you should try a full figure gestural studies. As in gesture I mean a quick loose drawing, don't get distracted by the details yet, but try to see the relation between shapes. In my opinion it's a more exciting process than detailed anatomy studies, but still, they both are necessary Go loose and expressive. Don't be scared. Mistakes are experience, they will only make you better. Unfortunately I am not familiar with books concerning that. All i know about gesture drawing is from a book titled "DRAWING: A Contemporary Approach by Teel Sale and Claudia Betti", I don't think it's very popular (a very texty and bulky book :teeth) and i'm sure there are better resources, but I just don't know them. Search gesture drawings in google image, there's tons of example there (I just did that ).

Keep posting. I'm keeping eyes on this one

Hey Gautham thanks so much for visiting my SB. I've enjoyed looking at yours. Looks like you are doing lots of studies which is good. I know when I first started I just copied them without really understanding what I was looking at. Now I spend as much time as it takes to try to understand the shapes and forms I'm drawing comparing it to spheres, cubes and cylinders. This may help you as you progress. I love your imagination for your creatures and characters so you just need to keep at it now. I shall enjoy watching your progress.

@ Ltplissken & Witckrack: I've got 2 months worth gesture drawings but have to sort them out before I can Upload them........... been trying out the 30 second gesture drawing........ and thanks for the comments.=]

@ Marian Rowling & andres333 : thanks for the advice, I usually draw the basic shapes like an oval for torso and cylinders for limbs before I go into details.....

here are some new and rough stuffs =]
