Hello everyone!
This is my sketchbook welcome!
I'm 16 now 17 years old and I always liked to draw but I got "serious" about art one year ago. Since then I try to improve my artwork and get better at what I love.
I like animation, Illustration and comics!
Please take a look and feel free to critique me I'll appreciate it.
Thank you for looking!
PS: Recent stuff is on the last page
I started this sketchbook when I was 15 but didn't post much, you can see some of the stuff on the first page.
Most of the posts are from this year.

ok, here are some "old" Character studies for something I'm work on right now
I guess my scanner hates me
Alright, this one is something I did today because I had no ideas and since I can't draw feet to save my life I decided to learn that today (I drew this from my anatomy book)

(I don't think anyone will read this but whatever)
Okay, this idea was for 3-4 days in my head and now I decided to draw it, it was a little challenge for me, I think I'm going to color it digital later
Not bad stuff so far, very cartoony and stylized. Ive seen the style in your imagery quite often, you've obviously took something from invader zim, maybe edd ed and eddy along with a few older cartoons. Its good that you're mixing them together. Im guessing youre into animation?
However these all have roughly the same body type, try exaggerating characters features. Like give one of them huge arms and torso, or a odd nose.

Hello,
thank you very much for looking and commenting and for the critique.
Yes, it's very "catoony", lol. But no I didn't take anything from Invader Zim or edd ed and eddy because I never watched them (okay I watched 3 episodes of IZ aaa).
It's more from Spongebob and Flapjack, and then I evolved it into something of my own, and yea I took also something from the old cartoons.
Yes, I love animation, ahaha.
Thank you for the critique, I'm gonna try to do that! :-D
Learn the anatomy of the nose :•( and nobody will ever accuse you of being like manga again.
Draw the following noses into your notebooks from google images reference: Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson, Julia Roberts, Vigo Morgenstern, Alan Rickman, Telly Savalas, David Niven, Maria Bartiroma, Marilyn Monroe, and Dean Martin.
Post them in your sketchbook.
And even when I'm not the OP I decided to do that because it sounded like fun:
Okay, I was playing a little with shapes(body and face)and thinking a lot about it and drawing (but I'm not gonna post everything here because most of it is shitty) and I came up with this... thing... uh... http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...Quail/derp.jpg
I like it.

Keep it up, you have the right idea playing with shapes like that, shape design is very important =)
Check out this podcast that Steven Silver did. He's talking about a lot of things that helped him invent people from his head and manipulate shapes more.
Also when using color I suggest you push the values more. The one you posted is looking very grey. I don't think you will mind I did a quick paint ova to show what I mean. Generally have either a lighter background and a darker character, or a darker background and a lighter character. My shadow shapes look bad but I think my point came across...
Cheers!

Hello,
first: Thank you for looking and commenting. Thank you a lot.
The video was very interesting to watch (or better to say, listen to). I'm gonna check his channel out!
Of cours I don't mind!
I'll keep it in mind and try to do it like you did, it looks really good, I want my coloring to look like this! °U°
I'll try it out in my next digital practise drawing. Digital art is for me like a big mountain and I'm still at the beginning, aaaa. But I really want to learn how to do that (and also different traditional coloring!).
Thank you!

Alright, some new stuff, lol.
This one is because I wanted to draw and color something with colored pencils (), was fun. Those are two different drawings trown together.
Also: The girl in the pink dress is a redesign of my old character (one year), the character was baaad. BAD. But now I like how she looks (she is a villain 8D)
And I found this blog (thanks to CA ): http://theartcenter.blogspot.com/201...of-shapes.html
and I really wanted to try that out, so here:
It helped me to "lose" and get a little away from the faces shapes I always do, great practise! I'll do that a lot in the future + it helped me to find some new designs and stuff for what I am working on.

Boy, I didn't post for a while, mainly because there was nothing "worth" posting.
I'm practicing anatomy (still looks horrible, lol) with this cool site: http://www.pixelovely.com/tools/gesture.html
yea, and I'm practicing coloring with colored pencils (and I got copic markers ciao, practicing how to color with them, too)
here is my latest thing online (not a sketch, but I just wanna post something)
Last edited by InvisibleQuail; April 26th, 2011 at 02:40 PM.
Alight, here are some sketches I like (practicing drawing humans, faces ect)
I drew them while looking at photos (I know not the best thng to do, but I can't do anything else atm)
I'll draw more humans and animals tomorrow, yay. it was fun!!
(the scanner didn't scan the shadows I made so I had to make it darker on the computer )
(edit: lol still didn't work, oh well)

So, I got copic markers for my birthday (lucky) and I was practicing a lot since.
I also got some books about color theory, but they are not that good, and I'm trying to understand how light works.
Here is the few stuff I like (there was many more but... uh, not posting that D: )
Gotta practice more.... and I need to work on poses and stuff, uh.
edit: I also got the fun with pencils with Andrew Loomis book, I only read a little (got it yestarday) wooha helpfullll.

Reading the Loomis book, god I learned so much not only about drawing but also about how I was drawing ect.
Awesome books!
Ok, I wanted to practice drawing animals (especially cats) today, because I can't draw cats.
It turned out shitty.
I drew the skeletton to understand how a cats body works (and know I do), I didn't just drew the lines but tryed to understand everything.
Then I drew an owl, but it looks bad and the cats too. And then I was angry and stopped but I'm gonna try tomorrow again.
Ok, then I read the Loomis book and practiced with two of my characters drawing expressions, I learned a lot and now it feels much easier to draw the same character more than once but I need to get better.
Ok then I wanted to try drawing poses, I now understand how running works but I'm too angry to draw more.
SO! Last week I finally decided that it's time for me to start drawing regulary from lifE!
And so it did!! Everyday (excvept Saturdays because on that day I work on my cartoon stuff) I sit down at 4pm and draw stuff in my room for one hour! I really wish to improve, I want to move on to humans and more detailed stuff later on.
I have drawn a lot, but I only post a few ones which I kind of like/okay with.
YEAH!! (sorry for shitty scanns)
OK, here is the first day (lololol fail)
SECOND!
3!!
4!!
Oh and this one is from today (but I was not very motivated D: ) :
OKAY! And here are some finished drawings (and two animated pixel avis, first time animating!! >w< it's fun:
(This one was done because I almost got an art block aaa)
So, one day ago I bought an apple and I wanted to draw it in color with pencils...
GUESS WHAT? I failed so hard, it was almost epic.
And then I deicded to first learn how to understand light... :I
So I did! (please note that the last one was the first one I drew that's why it's the worst, LOL)
Nice studies, keep it up! The self-portrait is not bad either. You can use more contrats with the shadows. When doing a self-portrait use a lighting that gives contrasting shadows (i.e a lamp directly lighting one side of your face instead of some homogenious reflected light). Observe these shadows carefully and draw them precisely.
2. Sketch: Yestarday I saw Aresa's Sketchbook and I really liked how she does expressions and she inspired me to try and learn how to do expressions!
I'll practice more!
3. Sketch:
Some gesture drawings I enjoyed doing them! It was a lot of fun.
While watching videos on youtube I paused and I tryed to catch the movement as quick as possible!
You've got a nice style going on. I'm liking the look of your characters. Great designs for them. Your life drawings are getting better as well. You seem kinda timid with the values (ex. self portrait) so really push those more. Those expressions are a great start! I'm so happy that I inspired someone, haha! You're doing a great job! Keep up the hard work!
@Aresa
Hello!
Thank you for visisting and your comment.
You are right about that I noticed it too. I'll try to work on it soon (will try to do it at the weekend)!! edit: I WILL work on that!
I noticed that SenEnd pointed it out too. I really need to stop being afraid of pushing the shadows... and start practicing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sketch 1: I want to get better and understand how faces/heads work and decided to learn that but I did not have enough time to draw a lot and finish it. I'll try to finish it at the weekend... and do some notes.
Sketch 2: Just something I did today, I did more but the others were uh... really bad. Not showing that, lol! But I kinda liked how this turned out... oh and I will try to draw the stuff I'm not good at too, like the feet and faces.

o-o awesome sketchbook you have here, its honestly just fun to look at with all the variety lol (I'm oo-ing at the pretty colors~). Also really like how you do use up the whole paper, since often times I see some sketchbooks with just a single figure or face on the entire page which just always seemed to bother me for some reason lol.
Definitely will be looking forward to see what you come up with in your next updates for sure ^^
Sketch 1: Finished the skulls from yestarday, decided to do them today and not wait till the weekend!
I'm starting to understand better how the human head works.
Sketch 2: Practicing values by drawing bananas! Still too afraid to get darker with the shadows. aaaaa.
Need more practice! Will work tomorrow on it more! 8D
