    Books

The book you are referring to is by Sarah Simplet may not be the correct spelling ::: it is a beautiful book :::: not really a great deal of practical information about drawing but beautifully done!!

here are some studies, i am working from a new anatomy book, which tells you the origin and insertion of muscles (very cool book).

drapery, i cant draw clothes at all.

i have reached the end of my sketchbook here is the last page..

but i have already bought(sp) a new one and am busy sketching
i feel like i am being redundant with my sketches, i think i am going to get a landscaping book and start incorperating(sp) them into my sketches (and i want to learn to draw landscapes, never really done them before).
    comments welcome....

Recognize the GB folds book. I teach something fairly similar to that.
Like the fact the you are sleep around in your studies.
I think that is adding variety to your style.

jetpack42- you made me think twice about my Tdome pic, and im glad you did. this is what i pumped out in the last day. not spectacular but a hell of alot better that the other image. thanks

burning eyes- i didnt think anyone else would pick DUCK TALES (totally awsome show). after we post our images in the Tdome image thread do you want to post our images in the challenge arena, and battle it out .

heres the NEW image. quite rushed but alot better than the other one as a final image.

Hey, nice work. I'm always really motivated when I see so much progress in another individual. Keep it coming. I encourage you to try stuff you know you don't draw as well. You've been working on these anatomy studies forever. Keep doing them, but draw more of those cooky perspective shots. I'd recommend starting them out in thumbnail, just so you can make more of them and get a feel for how they can be structured. It also looks like your mechanical/robotic/inorganic subjects are quite as developed either. Integrate some of those into your studies. They help out with understanding of planes and lighting (IMHO). But anyway, this stuff is great. Rock on.

Ditto to what auden said on this being a motivating sketchbook. I'd love to know what your doing and stuff. In terms of school and art classes and stuff?
And when did you start aiming to improve in drawing? I don't scan many of my drawings, but after seeing this I think I will. Oh and great work CA acadamy moderating.

There's lots of outstanding work here! I'm impressed by the range of subjects and stylistic choices. All of the hard work is definitely paying off. I especially love the anatomical studies and the watercolors. Btw, the paper warping from the wc in the sketchbook can be ironed out (like with an iron and a piece of paper between the work and the iron).

    Well done!

auden100- yeah, i have pushed away the mechanical stuff for too long (cause i know im horrible at it). ill try to incorporate new things into my stuff, but this update is more of the same . thanks for your encouragement!!

Rhaucan-thanks. about school, im just attending highschool right now(senior year). im in AP art: drawing, and just really trying to improve my stuff with personal studies. im looking for some figure drawing classes outside of school but havent really found any that arent once a year and a one day $200 workshop. i got serious about drawing a year ago when i found this glorious website , ever since... draw, draw, draw. hope i ansewed everything fully.

    mentler- thanks for checking in

Craig Houghton-thanks alot man! oh, and thanks for the tip on the wc paper, i would never of thought to iron my paper

i have a reason for not updating , i was away at an art competition and at a drawing workshop (the workshop was great!!).

at the workshop we started out learning about putting planes and elipses in a space and perspective and stuff. then after a break we got to draw from a live model woo hoo.
-i can post the perspective stuff if you want?
here are the gesture drawings we started out with, around 5-15 seconds each (sorry about the blurry pic)

we then moved onto a long pose (about 25 min). i didnt get to finish , but it was crazy fun

heres my update, sorry its been too long. i was going through a slow phase, and had to force myself to do what you see.but i am still going to try to keep it up.

sketchbook stuff... trying to implement some color just about every other page. the girl laying down and the horse are from reference, the rest is imagination.

heres the same charcoal i was working on. decided to add some more faces (it looked kinda boring to me). i stil have to go back and fix her face and do the others, so alot more work on this one. how is the composition looking?? better or worse than without the faces?

Could you make a break for about 2 years that i can walk with you... please!

I admire your anatomy knowledge, your different styles and your paintings generally!

    Just go on with this,
there is not really much to criticize at this point.
Perhaps try to go further; some interaction of characters
    some more dynamic poses...

you studied anatomy well so don´t stop!

    Xaya

PS: i wish i could study more anatomy like you did,
but i have to finish some horrible kindergarden paintings
with not handle-able colors (for me!) for school

do you want references or just stimulation for such poses?

I see you did already some cool dynamic ones in the upper part of this page
    (i didn´t noticed them... )

What i was thinking of was, because i think combat scenes are not your theme, of exaggerated dramatical poses and interactiones like in the black white movie Metropolis (hope you know this old old movie...)
I wanted to do this already for months but i need to learn more anatomy first...

    More please!

xaya- stimulation for poses i guess. i just have a really hard time thinking of a new pose sometimes ( when i want to have an action scene), i usually just give up. never seen metropolis

finally done with exams, the last two weeks have sucked

heres what i have managed to do....

SP(charcoal), somewhat of a likeness of me

character design #3, a doc ock design

    character design #4

maxetormer-thanks man!! after seeing the paper in my sketchbook did not take to watercolor at all. i had to try some charcoal, and it works great.

van-thanks for stopping by. been missing your updates to your sketchbook.

ive been gone for awhile, just been being lazy over my chritmas break. so i havent updated or done much of anything other than play Metal Gear Solid 3 (kick Ass game).

heres what i did do though.....
    inspiration from mike

    character design #5

character design #6 (calling this fan art and redesigns character designs )

finally finished this charcoal drawing. rushed the other two and finishing touches cause i was tired of looking at it.

    im back from the workshop.
had an amazing time. learned tons (mainly from Ron Lemons brain full of knowledge). wished i got to know more people, and wasnt soo shy all the time. but the people i did meet were awsome. it was amazing to be around so many people so into drawing like me, i dont know anyone that lives near me quite like that.

im super busy making up the week of school i missed, and starting a joint enrollment semester in college (im taking algebra and art:drawing ). so i dont have the time to update now but i will as soon as i can.

Hey man, nice to see you at the workshop!

Look! there you are talking to a girl! Something I didn't do at all!

How was the mexican lunch? I passed on it and ate some rock hard lump of dough and oatmeal I had left over from breakfast.

Doin good man. One thing I'd point out about the charcoal drawing is that the shadows lack definition. The lit areas are great. But with the solid black shadow it looks like a face carved into a block of stone instead of a solid head. I made the same mistake many times.

Try lifting out some small indications of reflected light in the shadow areas: back rim of the ear, neck, some strands of hair. See if it looks better.

    Keep it up man!

it was great to meet you too, and looking through your sketchbook was also a treat. the mexican lunch, well, ill say it was better than it looked .

thanks for the crit. ill do that on the next charcoals i do. i have already sprayed fixative of the one with the three heads, do you know if there is still a way to go back and fix it?? or should i just leave it alone??

Dude, I hope you decide to, it's going to kick some major ass up there. Just the wait now is making school drag like hell now.

I love your anatomy sketches make me jealous. I need to get an anatomy book, at least just to use for references and such. All I've been doing lately is portraits and clouds. Heh. Later dude, I want more stuff posted of yours!
