Time it takes you to finish a drawing

For long times, I'd always wanted to draw.
There are however a few technical limitations in my brain what prevents to start drawing. One of them: the time it takes to start a drawing and to end one.

So my question to you: how long do you take to make a detailed drawing?
And yeah I know: it's a very broad term, so let's take this as measure:
A detailed landscape drawing.

Is like four hours for a complete beginner enough or do you need to take longer?

the more experience you have at something, anything, the faster you will be able to work on it as time passes. Dont feel intimidated if a professional says he finishes in 3hours. some masters took months to finish an oil painting, not just for their sizes, but they wanted to get it right, and sometimes they would not work on it for some days.

so keep drawing and dont get discouraged by a trivial matter

It depends on medium and size, but if I want to take a paper about 50cm x 65cm and shoot for very realistic detail with dry media I would budget about 20-25 hours. If you want plein aire impressionism you can probably get away with budgeting for about three to five. Don't let the numbers daunt you. Obviously you take a break now and again.

It depends on my objective. It ranges from 20 minutes to 10 hours.

I'm not really sure. It has been a very very long time, multiple years since I have ever tried to push something to complete and utter completion. I considered something complete a month or two ago, and it was roughly 6 hours, but realistically I could've spent a good 20+ more hours on it for it to evolve into something of completely different calibur.

I suppose, the most accurate estimate I can give.

I can do anything in 28.6 miliseconds, but it´s boring to stare at the clock to get the timming right, so I just take my time and forgetted about it.

I had an idea driving this morning, a pencil scetch of the Master Wizard of Patience, the pencil technique and the emotions expressed must communicate infinite patience.

I think that might pose a time paradox or I think an answer to a dillema I had.

Great art are second to time, I don't think anything should be rushed for the sake of being fast, speed should follow with skill and it's personal as long as it doesn't make your art suffer.

For speedsters I guess it might hold true that you first need to be able to slow down before you can speed up. zap!

The topic of frustration and not being able to "get that mood" I think have been the instruction for me this week from the other side of the mind.

it really all depends on how well you understand the subject, i was referencing from a danielC study and what took me about an hour and a half could probably have taken him 20 to 30 minutes. However at one point it took him a long time do finish stuff as well.

It can take me anything from 6-8 hours to several days.. depending on the subject matter..

For pencil-work, usually around a half hour since I work on it in/between classes. The digital touch-up sometimes takes only minutes or sometimes days on end thanks to all of those papers I need to write to get my history degree.

Ryn is right, you should only spend 50 centimeters of your time on it.

I think Marko D says it best in his DVD ( I'm paraphrasing) " Take your time and enjoy yourself. If you don't enjoy what you are doing than it's not worth doing". What ever you draw will take time so don't focus on limitations from the outset.
Have fun and don't place so much pressure on yourself and enjoy the journey.
