A woman's face, this is an old drawing from I believe a Joseph Sheppard Life drawing book, I only did her face though. (That book has some great poses by the way).

The second one is a character design assignment from actually first year lol. A classmate interpreted my little girl CHR who I designed, and i started playing around with color schemes. And It's in the pile of my many unfinished digital pieces.

    Just thought I'd share.

I've actually just started painting on the computer myself, and one thing I've noticed, especially when it comes to faces, is that it helps to first lay down a neutral color, like the tan in your first pic, as a base coat all over the face, and then come in with the vibrant reds and dark browns over it, not just around it. Boy, I'm not good with words...good luck!

And here is a speedpaint which I did of my cousin Chavenese- I have gotten better at speedpaints, yay! This one was about 20 min...

First, some face studies. I roughly drew in a female face and then just experimented with trying to blend colors in and change the nationality of the face. I got 3 results. I'm fine with them.

Second is a tree which I saw, so I drew it in my writing pad while waiting for my mom.

Hey poetry man!! Thanks for dropping by my SB.
There's some nice stuff here that show good potential. I'd recommend some pose (posemaniacs) and anatomical (Loomis or Bridgman) studies.
Keep posting my friend!! I look forward to seeing more!!

Turbosnail- Thanks a lot man! no problem. keep doing your thing!

    CDEJONG-
I'm doing these value studies so that I can understand using color without blending. The items aren't anything really, just colors in abstract shapes. But i'm trying to just get 3dimensionality..

THanks KREL- Yeah! I gotta do more speedpainting studies!

the first is a face using tonal values

the second is some characters I sketched and colored. I liked the sketched version better, but I accidentally over-rided them while using sketchbook pro and saving on the same file.

And last is some more attributes of color. Ye I know it's weird to post splashes of color, but If I don't actually splash on that color to a canvas, I'm not going to learn it better. I'm focusing on hues, chroma, saturation, all that good stuff on color. I'm gonna do more of these to understand how to use color mixes better! I suggest it!

    peace.

The first is some made up gestures, I do those once in a while...

second one is some more gestures from posemaniacs...

I'm finding a new way of painting using only values and no blending- spent about an hour and a half with this one. I'm gonna do a lot more of these. I understand color a lot more now...

    done in sketchbook pro.

    thanks for watching. Peace!!

Hey man, thanks for the comment in my sketchbook.

I noticed almost all of your work is color, but I'd highly recommend doing some gray-scale studies to get a stronger grasp of form and value. It's often very good to get your understanding of value down before doing a lot of color work, you can't really do good color work without that foundation of value and form.
I'm not saying to stop doing color work right now, I'd just do less, and replace that with gray-scale studies.
Also when you do portraits/faces (or anything for that matter) really keep in mind the proportions, and really look at how every facial feature relates to each other. Exactly how far apart are the eyes? Do the nostrils line up vertically with the corners of the eyes, or are they a little wider or more narrow? Is the opening of the mouth really just a curved line or does is have some subtle changes in direction in there?

Just some things to keep in mind, hope I didn't ramble. Keep up the good work and keep pushing! Good stuff.

    Talking some more stuff...

Hey I'm back. This isn't the greatest sketchbook, but I'm going to continue updating it even if I will totally scrap it later... so here are some more studies and what not.

    - a half hour sketch of scarlett johansson (yeah, I time myself now, I've got to)
    - A grayscale face- It's horrible, but for some reason, I prefer to leave out rendering and details at this moment, as I simply wish to get the actual values into my head. I will definitely do more soon. It is a great experiment and learning process.

    - some random space scene. I will do more of those too. I'll put them in grayscale as well. That would be interesting...

-A rec room at my friend's university. We had a speedpaint challenge for 30 mins, and my first time using painter essentials 2.

    thanks for viewing peace!!

so some stuff I've been working on... There just ideas right now. They might drastically change. But felt like posting them.

apparently I only post process work on this sketchbook and I'm still learning. I think it's good that way. I'm not posting any finished works. I'll leave that for my gallery. But anywhoo:

first one is kids illustration idea
-second is original characters- umbrella man and rope boy (as amusing as that sounds)

-third is my recent venture into mech designs.. with some storytelling.

    enough chatter!! on with it...
