They do. All unis have tuition fees, even here in Scotland, where they're paid for by the Scottish Parliament, but the unis themselves are also subsidised by the government which gives them a large part of their funding.

I vote you're not an artist until you're a mentally ill bisexual with at least one substance abuse issue. Oh yeah and you have to do some art. Doesn't matter what it looks like. The key is bisexuality, mental illness, and substance abuse.

Also rockstars get to be artists. They do it all the time. Rockstar + shitty art = crowded gallery showing in LA. Brilliant!
Shit, man! Why you gotta ruin it for me?! Now I gotta find some guys to kiss, bash my head against something hard until I hear voices, and then get some dime bags? Fuck!

Does it count if we are eccentric, willing to hug dudes who are good friends, smoked weed during college, and currently smoke tobacco in a kickass pipe?

Yes, but only if you make it a point to let people know that those things make you both interesting and, more importantly, smarter/better than them.

Honestly, I'm smarter/better than people who feel it is necessary to let people know that those things make them both interesting and smarter/better than them. And I'm definitely above the megaphone ones.

    shit.

guess I can only aspire to commercial illustrator than to arstit.

I look more like an extra from some rap guy's bodyguards.

And my ass is too big for nuthuggers with straight legs. Like my balls to be able to breath.

    Wow! This thread's still going?

    Warning: CSI Raccoon Picture Below

Below is a picture of a poor little raccoon that didn't make it across the road near my domicile. Poor little fella got hit so hard he bit his own tounge off!

What does this have to do with DazDaryl's frustration with his country's educational system, Peter Coene's Dickensian social constructs, or the idea that "artists" should be more like David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust?

Well, nothing, it's just a picture of a poor little creature whose day certainly didn't end up like he planned.

Anyone see 2012? I thought it was OK, but too dang long for the type of B grade action picture it happened to be.

    Carry on!

arstit? ...is that like a tit that grows on someone's arse?

... I have to ask, since both countries you have listed do not have English as a first language, was your misspelling of "artist" on all of those except "deviant artist" intentional?

Such cases of captain obviousness don't quite apply when it comes to us arse-tits on the interwebs.
