inspectorsokar: cant stop the rock! much appreciated my friend!

Esco: thank you very much! glad you like them faces, had fun makin em!

MacTire: ya, me too dude, i think ill have to knock out some more studies regularly, so much you can learn from just a photostudy. but thanks for the kind words man!

Vritra: glad you like my figures man, and i love workin in black and white, less stuff to trip over which means i have to think less. fun to knock one of those out once and a while, good break from all this color nonsense. thanks for lookin!

Metal Fingers: Uuuuuughh man, fuuckin party pooper!!.... But....you're aaabsolutely right dude! did tons of gestures in colege but i think that drawin on a small tablet has gimped the looseness to my drawings. i gotta invest in a bigger tablet i think. cut out all this drawing from the wrist bullshit and start drawing with the whole arm again... but im broke, so till im making more of that freelance money, im stuck with these stiff chicken scratches.

Teundeboer: no YOU'RE amazing ! thanks!

Scotty Murph: thanks man, dig the last name, im a fellow murphy too, lets get drunk and eat potatoes sometime bi!

all done with this guy for now. colors are dull, and like metalfinger said, pose is stiff, but i did mess around with textures on this one more than i usually do, getting a bit more comfy with them. anyways, movin on to somethin else.

lovely sketchbook, LOVE your rendering skillz on your studies, I also think if you did more related studies to what your trying to draw out of your head, like the Police unit, they would be 10x better.

Like I tell others the same:
I figured recently a good way to pick up new things you might have missed, is drawing from your imagination after each study.
Doing study after study and not thinking about what you've done is easily done if not testing yourself frequently after it.
Just a small sketch from your mind to imitate the key lessons you saw in each of your studies. Doesn't get more fun than that.

Great sketchbook, lots of candy to gaze at, both creepy monsters and lovely ladies. If you don't mind, here's a couple of small snips of suggestions.

Draw a verb, not a noun - have your characters doing something, anything, it can be a very small action, but even the smallest action will bring them to life.

Look into contra-posture - many of your portraits have your subject with squared shoulders and hips, parallel to each other. Twist that spine just a little.

Texture and light - don't apply the same level of fine texture detail to the entire pic. You are in control and can lead the viewer around by bringing some areas into focus and leaving other areas undetailed. Same with light - like with orc portrait. He's lurking in shady woods, and we don't need to see both legs so clearly, since they are essentially the same thing twice.

Shinbone Creative - Turn great art into great toys.

Yeah bro! Good to see you still working hard! I'd love to make it to the MB workshop also man, I'm still hoping a mirracle will happen and I'll be able to go. As far as a few crits go on your pieces, the way you design/render anatomy looks very similar throughout most of your characters. I think it might help to study different body types and try out different shape and proportion combinations. Otherwise it's obvious you're definitely putting in the work and taking your illustrations to a nice finish.

Metal Fingers: sweet dude! should be a ridiculously good time.

Fetsch: thanks man, been tryin to work on that the most, switch up my brushes more, rather than have the same look to everything i paint. still needs tons of work. lots of stuff needs work tho, heh, thanks for comment man! your stuff is rockin too man!

    wasabi89: thanks man!

inspectorsokar: hahaha! ya man, i honestly feel that way abotu most of my stuff, the beging i feel great, and im like " this is going great, fuuck yaaaaa!" and then a bout half way thru i lose steam or something, and im like 'fuck why do i even bother!" but im doin my best to try and get these things lookin "finished". regardless if they look like crap. heh, anyways, always appreciate you comments dude, cheers!

Cold: pro tip right there man! and i think thats what ill jump onto these next couple days. a combo of what you, Wetterschneider and jasper mentioned, i gotta make poses more dynamic, which has always been a problem for me, but i always draw from imagination, and its always the same lookin shit. i guess the only way to get better at doing that is by drawing from life or with reference. so thats what ill focus on next. do some more of those studies, and then maybe draw them from memory maybe afterwards? might work.

Wetterschneider: ya, i keep forgetting about composition and where im directing the viewers eye. need to learn more fine arts stuff, maybe do some master painting studies. but ya, i tend to go over board with rending things that really dont need to be rendered, and vice versa. ill get there eventually.

Jasper_: ya lookin back on pretty much all of my stuff i do see similarities in poses and body types. another comfort zone thing. my goal for the last few weeks was to just bring something to a finish. since my main problem i thought i had was that all my paintings looked half finished. so i think ive done a few that i can call "finished". could always go back on a painting, i ve heard that "paintings are never finished, they are just abandoned" before, sometimes i tell myself that when im "done". but whatever right, gotta move on to something else eventually. id lose my mind working on one piece for to long. but like i mentioned to cold, ill prolly do some studies that relate to ur guys suggestions. thanks!

anyways, done with this one. gonna do some more studies like i mentioned above and like what some have suggested. see if i can get my boring poses i come up with lookin more dynamic.

Came out good man, only crit I have is watch the spacing of things, the enviro is getting broken up into layers, you have your foreground row a. rocks, you're mid section row b. rocks in the lava and then your nose bleeds in the back. Just breaking up the planes things are spaced on to make things a bit more random can add so much life to a painting. something I've been trying to wrap my head around recently. Cheers! put some cools in there too! you're starting to get some nice purples and magentas in the tail area of the creature, working those into more of the shadows would be nothing but lovely

Metal Fingers: ya totally, i think ill be doin some all out environment studies soon too, to work on exactly what you said. and ur not seein nay purples i nthe shadows? hmm my main monitor that i paint with shows the cool purple i used in the shadow.. kinda gets lost a bit in my second one... fuckin hassle monitors are, they are both calibrated so i guess i just need to enhance it a bit.

heres some of the same shit.

wanted to just fart around for a bit before i jump into photo studies. c ya!

fudgeloaf: totally dude! i agree completely, a bad habit of mine is not taking big risks in my drawings, camera is basically never angled at all. thats something im aware of and have all the intention to work on soon! i just need to grow some bawls first hehe.

Metal Fingers: ya im so broke that i have no choice but to just deal with it, some day id like to get me a legit one, but for now, i gotta manage with what i got!

heres a study i did today. i chose this one cus i haaate these types of suits, a pain to wear, itchy as shit, and also ive never painted one like it b4 let alone any type of suit. i think ill be workin on my male poses and fabrics for a bit. we'll see.

I love your designs and creepy stuff, but wow, you're really showing your skills in the studies. Fantastic rendering, and the fabrics are spot on! More gogogo!

Btw, how long did you work on the latest study?

    Virg: thanks man!

Esco: thanks dude, id like to some day have my stuff i draw from my head be at the same quality as my study paintings, thats the goal, heck thats probably what we all are aiming for, just need to keep doin them and keep tryin to learn more things. these last two studies probably accumulate up to 7 or 8 hours each.

CRYPT: hahah thanks man, theres no secret, ive just been training my eye to see color values better over the last few months. textures are simply made from knowing what brushes u already have and which ones to combine to get the texture you are lookin for. i have a bunch of brushes now, and i just mess around with them and try and figure out what the mark they make actually does texture wise, sometimes i dont find out till i accidentally pick it for something and go " ooh fuuuuuuck this is peerfect" and then i remember the brush. thats it! thanks again !

    FUSHANDCHUPS thank you very much!

heres another photo study, still a dude, and still has some texture and some twisting goin on a bit. anyways off to the next one!
