Soros: Thank you!
Belindi: Heya! Thanks for stopping by!
Sycra: Thanks!
Molly: Cheers Molly!
Just some gesture practices this time. I'm following Glenn Vilppu's method. He teaches life drawing for animators and I feel that it's equally beneficial for comic artists that can't work from reference all the time. His method is about analysing the figure and teaches you to visualise in three dimensions. I can't recommend his teachings enough. His explanations are clear and he makes difficult concepts easy to grasp.
I've been neglecting my figure drawing for a while and it shows...
I've made up a weekly study plan which should take me through figure drawing, anatomy studies and painting practice if I can manage to squeeze it in between my other work. I'm really determined to structure my learning from now on though. I never quite knew what the best structure for learning was... what areas to cover in what order but having a plan, even a bad one is better than nothing. It's always possible to amend the plan if it's not working.

@tenshianna: Hey Anna! Good to see you here! Let's uhm... update more! XD
@Metal Fingers: Cheers mate!
@a la bapsi: Haha, yes update is needed so...
... here are some sketches I did at the MADE symposium in Berlin about 2 weeks ago.
t was an amazing experience. The talks were enlightening, certainly, but meeting and talking to attendees and instructor probably was just as rewarding. I was impressed by how easygoing all the instructors were, yet you could sense the intensity as well... man hard to word it, but I think MADE has changed my outlook on being an artist.
One thing that struck me... In terms of raw skill and craftsmanship, all of the instructors were skilled enough that they could probably do each other's work. The comic artists could be illustrators or concept artists, and vice versa (heck in some cases they are!), but the one guiding thing that determined what they actually did was their own interest.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, as a student your goal can be improvement, but at some point you'll get technically good enough that you could in essence do anything. At that point you might feel lost if you don't know what you're really passionate about, so it's important to try and stay aware of what you're interested in.
I uploaded my photos from MADE here:

Hey there! Great sketches from Made. I especially like those storyboard like thumbnails at the top!
I definetly agree about what you said about the symposium. It was somehow like a spiritual experience o_o
Keep on drawing![]()
It was great to meet you at the launch party! Sorry I didn't get to talk to you more... there were so many people...
Haha I was a leeeeetle bit tipsy when I drew those crowd shots. I was wondering how wobbly they would be and was surprised to see that they weren't much worse than my normal sketches. If anything I think they had more spontaneity and less worry. XD Drink + Draw = Win!

Finally went to life drawing again! Now that term time is over it's hard to find reasonably priced life drawing in Cambridge. Paid through the nose for it, but it was worth it. I really enjoyed it.
Been trying a different approach than the construction method. I have trouble getting the value relationships right but I like this method. It's quite minimal but through suggestion it has the potential to produce some nice mood.

yay figure studies!!my fav thing
with the quick poses from life in the last post, try and find a uniform pattern of light and shade through the figures. At the moment the tone is a bit all over the place and not really helping depict form or mood or anything . Try and make each appear to have an obvious light source
and keep it up !
Do you make up a light source? I often find it really difficult to actually see a dominant light source so I try to shade to describe form (diffuse light or occlusion or something along those lines). Well, try would be the word... Sometimes I get confused though so I stick closer to what I see which might be why it's all a mess.
Thanks mate! Appreciate the tip!![]()

Hi Nana! I love the pen sketches. makes me want to dig up my old ballpoint even though it spits up blobs here and there. I'd love to see more of your imaginative stuff, but im not really one to talk. I finally got around to starting a new sketchbook and youd be quite welcome over there wink nudge. In all seriousness i would like some people to post there before i update again so it doesnt take a day to load the first page. I think youre onto something with the figure studies, just need to refine the new technique i guess. I should probably do sort of the opposite and work on construction. Well, im babbling and i may have said some of this to you already so ill just say goodbye and good luck![]()
Nice stuff in here. I like how you balance the anime style with the realistic. Those figure drawings on the other page were looking really good. Keep it up.
