    The Mad Traveler...

Hi guys! I was a little terrified to start a sketchbook because of all the top quality artwork on this forum, as well as seeing some pieces in people's sketchbooks. However, no more beating around the bush, my 'art demons' are going back to 'Tartarus' where they belong.

So a little brief about myself. I'm 22 yrs. old got into the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for three years...*spare details*

For someone who values basics and foundations first as opposed to digital. I realized I wasn't getting enough traditional studies, so I quit.

So, without further ado...here is my Sketchbook. Criticisms and Critiques are most welcome, I am having trouble with anatomy and the like; even though most of these are gestures and observation drawings right now, there is more to come. I would love advice to help improve myself as an artist.

Thank you kindly for reading this.

Thanks I know. I trying my damn hardest to keep going, as my motivation doesn't always stay with me. D: but thanks for the encouragement. This is the last small gesture drawing(s) for at least a few hours; I know its only one (it's almost 1am and I want to get sleep so I can get up early). Probably should go draw cloth...gotta go find cheap ass blanket cloth and pin it up to my wall. Damn, snow is keeping me from going to go 'people-watching' at mall so...I'll do with what I have.

    More when I get up.

    EDIT: More gestures.

Here are some more gestures and also I was trying to draw the figure in pen; it's hard. D: but, I also wanted to see the round forms hence the red curved lines on the body. C&C is appreciated.

    More to come tomorrow.

Here are some more studies I did at a 'Hall' type building called the Red Fern up in Ridgway, PA. Tried to do some environment studies of a bar/table landing area as well but didn't turn out.

    Here's some Glenn Vilppu studies.

I really gotta just learn to look at one or two anatomy books and study the crap out of them. I study from too many and I have too many.

    Anyway, more to come.

Red face Art Slump for 3 months (PRIOR)...and my rejuvination...

    Hey guys,

Sorry for not posting in a long time...I hit a HUGE 'Art Slump' for almost three months for some reason and other things.

Let's just say, being in an 'Art Slump' sucked ass and I hope it never happens again.

So...these sketches I'm posting are PRIOR to my 'Art Slump' and there are sketches that I started up again.

Well...here we go...feels good to be back. (the 'Art Slumpage' still kinda lingers but...I gonna make sure it's gone by either the end of this week or next).

More to come (since it probably won't let me load all of it)

Sorry haven't updated in a while. There have been alot of things going on...plus now I'm kinda dealing with the beginnings of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; if I'm not careful, kind of depressing, so yeah...alot of this stuff will be old and fairly recent (just never got around to updating back when). So, anyway, here we go.

EDIT: Need to get in a routine so I can keep track of dates >_<

    More stuff...

    Sorry been busy,
Here some more stuff over the past few days from the outside world (Life). Gonna get back to studying some stuff. Have a binder full of Seedling's tutorials that need done, so I'm gonna give those a shot. Plus, I'm gonna start doing some photoshop studies and some oil painting studies so expect those too.

Been trying to draw and update everyday and LO! it has worked (better than the last time) sometimes...now I just gotta get myself to do it all the time. Life is nice when 'the kid' in you finally comes back after so many years in isolation...and your wondering where the hell he/she's been all these years. Honestly though, I think it just took an event like Illuxcon 3 (I attended) to finally awaken 'that little kid' to make me affrim that I really do enjoy ART!

    Sorry for lack of updates...again.

I've had way too much stuff going on to have time to update recently. ):

btw, anyone know how to get that little gap between images so I can type something?

Here's only a few old things, most are recent. Photoshop and more stuff coming later tonight/early morning.

    My Gnomon DVDs arrived...YAY!!

Tried Scott Robertson's rendering from his 'How To Render Matte Surfaces' vol. 1 *probably watching Vol. 2 tomorrow*...soo much info. on one DVD, had to take a few breaks so my head wouldn't explode.

I suck at value scales. *MUST work harder!!* Also, have yet to take a picture of the Bammes hand/bone structure thing *I'll get on that *
*ARGH! I keep forgetting about those gray-scale environments need posting*

Man, I love working on brown paper. It's hard, but I love putting in the highlights. Fabric on toned paper is really fun. I love your portrait and scapulas. So pretty.

Some of the figure drawings on the previous post look a little too... thoughtful? Like you were fighting your eyes with what you thought you knew. Particularly the lady covering her face, her head is tiny in comparison to her rather... well drawn breasts.

Keep at it, you're doing well!

Yes, working with brown paper can be difficult. Also, yeah, her head is tiny (girl covering her face), that's me not observing and analyzing enough. Also, I do fight with my eyes and hands vs. what I (presume to know), I'm trying to quit doing that...it hinders more than it helps. That post earlier with the girl covering her eyes (and the other) is from a photograph, was trying to capture gesture.

Thank you! I will keep going.

The first three are of the WIP of a branch I found outside...still working on it. I may start over, I don't know considering it was started a few days to a week ago.

The second is from trying to do a model sheet with the construction of the head. Got frustrated with it so I'm gonna do it again. *should have done warm-ups this morning*

Gonna do something else and pay more attention since I've been having a rough morning *of course, it could be because I forgot my coffee...I'll probably drink tea, better for health*.

Damn!!! thats a lot of studies!!!! Good job, I can see your not scared to draw people, I still find it a little awkward, people thinking I'm a creep or something... anyways great stuff, though you should start some digital as well, unless your just traditional then thats cool. Learning digital is whole task on to itself, Its like learning to do everything from the beginning, yet you get it after a while. I'm still getting used to it. Anyways keep it up, your definitely getting better!!!
