    Happy Holidays!

I laughed at the comic panel with the monster in the center of the village. People running away at the monster's thumb's up.

Doing studies and drawing skulls as overlays on people's faces is a great idea. I did that was clothing ads for a while. I think it helps. I notice some of the skulls drawn have a lot of worry lines, it would nice to have nice confident clean strokes.
Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

the value scale is a good idea.
remember to work from general to specific, at its most basic the head just has a front, side, top, back and bottom plane.
if the light is pointing to the front of the head then then the planes facing the generally to the front should be generally lighter then the planes facing more to the side etc.
looking at your tengu - the bulge of the forehead(the frontal bone) has a plane the turns down slightly but is still facing more forward then the plane under the brow, so it should remain lighter then that plane.
your studies are progressing well and its good to see some original work.
    keep it up

I agree with adam about the planes and simplifying. In the tengu piece I think it would benefit it if you didn't have so much of your darkest dark and maybe an extra value in the light.

I like those color and nose studies. They look very 3dimensional.

Thanks for the comment in my SB

Now you have some pretty cool stuff!!!
I have to admit I got a bit disappointed with that wide image with the 2 adventurers. I thought that "great a scroll-thingy! There gotta be something fun at the other end shooting that arrow" :p Still very cool image though

I like the dragons!,as for your heads I'd suggest when you draw for reference that you try to spend some more time looking at where the features are!,Your drawing will improve a lot if take a bit more time with your studies!

hey dude, keep an eye on photo-reffing when it comes to faces. On that last picture post it looks to me like you were in two minds- drawing the hair and the eye covered by shadow (which has caused the eye to become stretched and misplaced in an attempt of correction) and the bottom right section of the face which seems stronger.

Dont forget to flip your canvas often (and early!) to fix these errors. Also try alternative between having an initial linear line sketch and starting with paint colours.

    Peace out

    Will
