Lightbulb Justas Sketchbook. Always welcomed for open critique.

Hello everyone, some time passed since I have made my first SB and first steps to what I am strugling with now, becoming a more proffesional artist.

Here are some sketches for an abstract city composition, for a fresco project of a building. Basicly these show a rough idea of dynamic city with its moody atmosphere and some sheets of my pocket SB.

I hope you will find something interesting here, and drop a comment, what you think of my work. Don't be shy to drop loads of criticism. It is always nice to hear good words about your art, but it's much nicer and profitable to hear the things that are or seem to other people bad, which the artist isn't always able to see in his own work, eventhough he might spot it in the works he sees the 1st time in his life and his eyes aren't used to it

Well here I go again, my 2nd SB in CA

Damn, the uploading became so complicated these days o_0

Looking good, Love them abstract citiscapes. The black and white ones are the strongest so far. like the first face study real sense of light. would like to see some of this stuff pushed through to finalization. keep it up xx

    Hey, Stephen,
Thanks, glad you like those Well the portraits are more like attempt to catch the character of a person quickly, since I have noticed that I have issues with that. And what goes to finalization, I will surely put it in here, in a month I should have the final sketch of this project of a semester

Wonderful compositions. I especially like first, 5th and 6th.
I must say that your drawings look chaotic at times. Too many sketchy lines make drawings look not so confident. Though, I think I said it before.
At least to me your paintings are stronger than drawings.

What about uploading, I find it easier to upload using imageshack and then just copy paste links here.

    Sekmes!

Cecil, thanks, well yeah, I am very messy when I can't use my rubber, basicly that's why I started to do more pen sketches than pencil. Although it hasn't payed off too much by the line confidence and line aconomy
Hmm, interesting choise, how do you think, why these ones?
What goes to painting, I really have to spend more time on it, because when it goes to portrait painting, my works aren't so pleasant as I wish them to be.

For todays update, a portrait study on a1 format, it's a very begining, and the lines are very weak, so basicly what you see here, is original +80% contrast -20% brightness

    Hi Justas,

your sb is starting just wonderful IMO, I like the expressiveness of your drawings (portrature), they seem quite strong to me and decisive, regarding your thumbnails of enviros I think they have potential and I can see many shapes coming to my mind, just you could try to seperate for, mid and background a bit more with different values, maybe you could think of the composition as a cube where one has to balance out the forground towards mid and background and from left to right, this would make them much stronger, hope that makes sense

    cheers

Android, Hello, thank you, I think I'm getting the picture of what you are trying to say, not totaly sure if I'm right, but your idea seems interesting to me and im going to try it when i'm finished with the sketches I've already started

Did some anatomy, after I took a look to a guys SB whose name I don't remmember, he decided to make 1k of study pages, so I decided to do the same with anatomy, don't know if I won't lose the number, but it will be usefull anyway.

I really like the abstract compositions on the first post, that's much harder to do than most people think. Keep doing the bridgman studies. Studies and reference work, that's the way to go and you seem to be doing it, so you are on the right path.

Thanks sodAp, well yeah, its not easy to pull up a well done abstract composition, that would empicture the emotions, and theme you are willing to show However, it depends on the ways u work, and the effect you want to achieve imho. Will post some feedback on ur sb when I'll have some time, deadlines are killin.

Our model got sick, so started to draw another one, a wip for now again, any tips on soft media would really help and some compositions, that were made more precise from some of previous posts.

I think this head turned out better than previous one. Probably because faces of older people are more interesting to watch I also like how you defined planes of the head.
I think I don't need to say what I think about your compositions Just as good as always

It would be interesting to see some more quick sketches from you

I really like your first colour sketches, I think they're more dynamic than the last ones which imho are too neat.
I also find very interesting how you construct the faces before shading them, it's peculiar

Hello, Saska, Thanks for posting your ideas here. Well i like the first ones better too, however since my project technique was sgrafito, which requires sketches that are more precise, to fulfill it technicly, and while doing so they became to lost what they had in their first stage, bit by bit

Here are abstract city view compositions.

    Sveikas, Justai : )

I think with softer media like sepia you have to be careful not overdosing, as you can easily overwork a patch, where you won't be able to add any marks and it'll be just single tone.

    Nesupratau, kokią techniką naudojai?
The vvorse parts of these are vvhere there is less relation betvveen the colours and shapes, the primary marks in these. The e)(ample I`m shovving here vvould be better if the colours mixed around more, establishing a "relationship" betvveen each of them, rather than having seperate entities.
    But I'm no Aitmanas ;D

This is avvesome. Although for the EKSTRA NAIS touch I think it needs compositional axes. This type of abstract is one of my favourite, and what I like the most about them is the sensitivity in arranging - there might be just very very slight difference in the dripping.

This is just ace. VVonderful, man, just vvonderful.

Thanks, though they aint that good as u say

The technique i used on that abstract peace was application of small pieces of cardboard and applying acrylics onto the top.

Didn't load anything for a long time, so here i go again
