So... today I tried to oil paint.. WTF, its so freaking hard.. You cant go over the same stroke without taking paint off? lol anyway heres my first try, just an apple. I only bought primary colors so I could learn to mix... Anyway gunna scrape this off and try again.
Should have done it bigger..

DAM BRO!! The passion and sheer amount of work going here is inspirationalEspecially diggin your latest oil study- your values seem spot on
As for critiques all I could say is your studies seem slightly rushed, when I do any kind of study, Loomis, Tone, colour I take freaking forever (only got three posemaniacs done today lol) cause I'm constantly questioning everything, how is this line describing the form? how would this look at a different angle? why is this chick's boob so low??, not just copying what I see but digest it as I draw it in order to apply what I've learned to my own drawings, it's not about doing as many studies as you can but learning as much as you can from each studying and applying what you've learned to your own stuff. Sorry started rambling there, I just see you have such a strong passion and want to improve so all I can say is slow down, question, and watch your stuff improve

Hey Element1988! Thanks for stepping at my SB!! You remind me a little bit when I started, and the thing that has been helping me more lately and that changed the way I draw was to study perspective, was a pain but after a few weeks I was drawing everything more solid (even freehand) although I haven't finished yet, still have to work cast shadows and reflections, but I encourage that you try it! Even if it's daunting at first and a little bit of a pain, it's worth the effort. Cheers and keep on working!
thanks for looking at my sketch book. I just went through yours and it was awesome to see the improvement. your oil painting of the apple is really awesome for your first try; it'll take a couple of day for the paint to dry. have you ever worked with acrylics?
more underchin head practice! try drawing bigger, on a bigger paper, with smaller pencils and your whole arm! grab a big newsprint stack and do some charcoal sketches!
bad painting and a sketch i did of a rocketman thingy.. no ref.

Good to see you work hard, and draw and paint with all kinds of materials.
Some nice pieces, also in the beginning of your sketchbook btw, such as the eagle, reindeer and some musclestudies.
I noticed your lines are stronger in the cartoon/comic pieces you make.
I guess that's more familiar territory, but I'd say try and take that strength of linework into your realistic pieces.
Also some very good advice from JeffX99 on page 4 or 5 (or both)...read that again sometime I'd say.
I feel the studies where you put more time into 1 piece really teach you a lot more than the quick scribbles.
Not that these don't teach you anything, but I suggest to do more longer studies (say 4 - 10hour studies)
that way you can really sit down and take your time and observe all the planes, the lighting conditions, the perspective,
and try to check whether those theoretical concepts somehow connect in that one piece.
Anyway, good to see you're going strong, keep at it and you'll go places!![]()
