hello good start here! try to get your hands on vilppu's drawing manuel dvd. especialy gesture. if you do pose maniacs.... well i don't think its good to draw from them... the poses/models are realy stif and unless you have some xp its better not to make gesture drawings from them in the first place. download some sports foto's... or on chracter design . com these are more usefull as it is a real body in pose! al in all you have a realy good thing going and lots of motivation... the rest will folow soon!

Element1988, thanks for the suggestion and the encouragement that you posted in my SB. I've been avoiding getting a scanner, but your post has given me new motivation to get one.

You're definitely committed to drawing the figure well. I admire your passion. I really like the fact that you draw from memory, and work to build up the areas you feel you're weak in.

Are you working through a specific plan or book? I have lots of recommendations, but I'll just mention Andrew Loomis for now.

    Thanks again.

there good progress here man - its just a case of producing more more more i think.

Dunno if anyone mentioned it before but it might be worth having a look to see if there are any life drawing sessions anywhere close to you (community colleges or evening classes are normally good places to find them) the difference between drawing from a model and drawing from a photo is immense!

My dads birthdays comming up and i wanted to do something cool for him. so i did Jimi Hendrix. spend about 8 hours on it but while adding more dark's i lost a lot of detail, and sorta messed up the head but its the best i could do on paper lol there's no undo button and my eraser sucks. anyway i don't think he will see the screw ups.

Ok so after watching some tutorials ive started doing this stuff. it goes gesture to capture the motion then use boxes to show direction and then curves to capture the form. i didn't do great but just knowing this stuff makes me feel like ive improved.

Hey man great start to a sketchbook - you are obviously working really hard! Keep up the good work its paying off...

Definitely agree with trying to get hold of some life drawing lessons, although I know they aren't easy to come by sometimes!

Thanks for visiting my SB dude, I just looked over some of your earlier stuff and you have some seriously nice life studies of garlic and a couple of others. I'd like to see some more life studies like this for sure! Keep it up!

Yea I like the Jim Hendrix portrait also. The hands might need a little bit more work but I think otherwise it's one of your best drawings in here.

Hey, been a while eh lol, oh well im here now.

Anyway, so im going back to basics and trying to figure out how the hell do you render soft edges with a hard brush? people are always telling me to stay away from soft brushes and i tend to agree that used badly they look nasty, so how do you render soft effects with the hard brush? i tried my best to blend but its just not happening at all. i have this same patchy messy look whenever i try to render.

i thought of that at first but wouldn't there be some shadow there since the light is being blocked by that corner?

    its a little confusing XD

    Your studies are looking decent.

For the rounded ball, did you try using a soft brush? It seems like you just went with the hard brush and it can be difficult to get a nice gradient blend with it.

You should try checking out Ctrlpaint.com and looking at his tutorials.

VPs are too close together and you connected the lightsource line to the wrong corner projections is all. Play around with teh various ways you can connect the cast shadow corners to the box...you'll find the right ones.

Ok, so i woke up today with a nasty cold. My head is banging, i can barely talk and nose is blocked up real good. so i didn't really feel like doing anything today but after drinking about 4 gallons of orange juice i cleared my desk and set up a lamp and spent the day drawing from life... mostly apples and used tissues lol its not what you think XD for my nose! Anyway i did them all on paper and then spent about 2 hours trying to get my scanner to work, after giving up on that i took some photos and tried to hook my camera up to the pc... my pc wouldn't recognize it -.- So until i fix my scanner i cant post my stuff i did on paper.

But i saved the apple core from the apple i drew a few times and drew that in Photoshop... not really happy with it. there wasn't a lot of dark dark's or light lights on it, it was all sorta mid tone so i have some trouble with it.

Did some shapes too... dunno why.

Might post some more stuff later, lets see how it goes.
