    Liffey's Daily Self Portraits :D

Whatuuuuuup! Decided to start doing daily SPs after seeing some of the other threads in which people have been rapidly improving. I don't really have time for this, and I hate drawing self portraits. So this should be a good test of my perseverance and commitment. Hopefully I'll see some improvement and learn to like doing SP's a little more. All critique is greatly appreciated.

Most of these will be digital for the first month since I don't have a scanner.

First one is pretty uninteresting... works for a start though I guess. :/ I need to choose a better angle next time, I think the straight on shot is the hardest to shade because it's harder to see the forms, at least for me. Also for some reason I look really young in this picture, not sure why though.

From a photo of when I had long hair. Obviously it's too soon for me to be moving to color... yech.

    45 mins. Also yech.

I didn't have time to post this last night, but I did draw it yesterday, I swear. >_>

Anyways, I did this in pen to keep myself from going over my lines as much as I do in photoshop. My plan for today is to do a few more pen drawings of the same picture. I haven't spent much time on these so far due to long work days and other projects, but I have the day off of work today, so for today I will have no excuse.

Re-did the last picture twice, with some pretty noticeable improvements.

I like the overall use of tone in the latest one, but the neck muscles confuse me a little bit. keep it up

Didn't have access to a computer last night, and I only have this one photo of me around the house, so had to draw it again.

Some very good improvement here. The first was okay, but the rest continued to improve. Have any tips for self portraits?

Tips? Just try to keep the forms in mind instead of just copying what you see. I'm not the one to go to for tips though.

try not to rely on memory so much though.
the last one is better than the rest tho, it's an improvement and a good expression

looks like you're improving rapidly! just keep on doing those studies and memory helps but don't rely on it for the first couple of years of hard study too much. (time may differ according to personal growth)

Did this as the sun was lighting my room. Took a break and came back, and realized I had shaded it all wrong. Fixed it, took a little extra time though.

Nice work man, keep up with it. I can already see more confidence in your linework in the latest versus the first few.

Took a couple days off due to long work days and needing to finish my newborn picture. I'll make up for it with three SPs today.

I like how 17 turned out, but 18 gave me a lot of problems.

Wow. Excellent work. I think you really starting to understand the general shapes of a face. I think you're ready to go for color now. =D

Trying to maintain my compsure here. :|

Also I forgot to mention that these latest two are my first time ever starting a drawing with blobs of value instead of lines.

Thanks hala... I've been doing 'em, just been really frustrated since they seem to be regressing the last couple days. Oh well... didn't expect to do this topic without runing into any problems. :/

Hey, I recognized your name from the bizz lecture!
Good stuff in here, shows improvement!
I like your brushstrokes, a little bit too scribbly sometimes which muddies things up a bit, but pretty good on the whole.
Your construction is a bit off sometimes. Try spending a bit more time in the rough stages trying to nail the forms and proportions, and do allot of flipping to spot mistakes.
