Hello. I am not new to CA per se though I have rarely posted. I am looking to continue growing as an artist and though getting some crits from the folks here might be a good way to do that. Please feel free to crit all work as I would take appreciation to it. Thanks and enjoy!

I really love the pencil pieces, I just think the painted one really stands out due to the fact it's painted. I cant wait to see some of the others painted

Awesome work, I think it's pretty solid, however... I think you really need to pay attention to proportion. Because it looks like you have a good idea of general anatomy, but your proportions are often skewered or off. Pay more attention to form.

Undeadartist - Thanks! It is more finished than the others. I had a lot of fun drawing that one. In fact. i drew it, scanned it, painted some, printed it, then drew on that and THEN re scanned it! just trying some new things.

hey, cool stuff DMadd.
as Enydimon said,seems like you miss with proportions a few places

and on the last one.. the Thor/Odin (with a gun

) and wolf, if your going to work more on it, his left brace seems a little off and you should try to redraw the wolf face with refrence

and as i said, this is really cool stuff, i want to see more.

gnilrE - You are correct. His arm looks sort of broken. And the wolf face is JANKY! But I prefer to move on and keep working on the next thing. You know the sad thing is this...I tried to use reference. I just did a bad job

Stylization is no problem at all, but it has to look like stylization and not like bad proportion if you understand my meaning. In your first post, the guy's forehead doesn't really match up with where you want his head to go. It's just round all the way around but heads do not look like this. The head kind of flattens on the sides. In the second post, the third drawing, his legs look really short in proportion to his torso, which is quite long. In the third post, for the most part it's alright, but his leg furthest to us doesn't really match up. to where the calve would end. In fact it's a bit too forward from it.

But you're doing really good. You could probably just benefit from practising and thinking form in terms of planes. I'd read up on some anatomy books, and not only copy what's there, but read how it functions so you get a good idea of how it's working. It seems you know how most of it looks, but you could also benefit from understanding how it all functions.

I hope that helps and isn't too harsh. I think you have a great potential here and this is going to be an awesome sketchbook to watch.

Enydimon - no worries. I don't take it as harsh. And I didn't meant to sound defensive or like I was brushing you off. I do "wing it" a little too often. I will focus on anatomy a little more here.

A few more sketches. These are pretty hit and miss. There are things I am happy with on all of them. There are plenty of non successes though. For instance I need to keep in mind that clothing wrinkles do not go all the way to where the cloth is stretched tight! Ah well. Lesson learned there.

Awesome sketchbook man! Love all the different darish poses you create, your proportions are overall good, but in some they are a bit off, like in this one: http://donmaddock.files.wordpress.co...pg?w=497&h=385

I don't know what to say except great work and never put that pencil away!

I know the left elbow is wonky. I am taking drawings I already have and just working on painting technique.

I think you could use some perspective practise. Maybe take a look at some Hogarth.

The proportions in this seem fine to me, it's just that it doesn't look like his body is moving through space.

I am always working o it.

I have been (just recently) working on poses with movement. it is not a strength of mine. So I find an image to reference. This is the one I used for this.

But mainly. I am just taking sketches I have done in the past and trying to work on painting.

For future reference, his right arm(our left) is going behind him in such a way that parts of his arms are overlapped. Foreshortening can be a pain, but just think of the body in 3d shapes. Things get overlapped when they are further away.

you have really a great sketchbook here.
i really admire your character designs. They are simple but have a lot of information and emotion in them. I the movement you're getting in them.
keep in mind the critiques you're getting, because they're spot on. Getting these few tips down will really push your characters.

DMadd, Liking what you are doing in your sketches. I love the solid blacks in areas. Your shading is very nice.

Hi DMadd; cool sketchbook here! The poses of your characters are very dynamic. The medieval gates look very interesting as well. I think you should do more coloured stuff and things beside characters.

engelhardt - yea I plan on doing some enviros in my attempt at 20 paintings this month. Certainly a chore as those are not my strength!
