Scott M. Fischer- New art-o-rama Oct 2009- Kidsbook evolution

Duuuudes CA, time for a mini art dump! But first I have a favor to ask!

My next kidsbook, JUMP!, (see art below) has a chance to get into over a million Cheerios boxes!!! But it needs your vote! It is a freakin miracle I am even in the competition at all! I've been doing well, but the others are coming on fast and it is my hope y'all can be the Calvary! The top 5 books get in boxes.

Please place a vote for JUMP here (page 2) and you get to vote once a day every day until Oct 30th at 11:59PM.
    http://promo.simonandschuster.com/ch...-poll/poll.php

Now the good stuff! Here is some art from JUMP!

I've also been making crazy videos of me being silly with cereal to remind folks to vote! Here is a link to the latest but you can find them all on my site and youtube channel.

Thanks el coro! I wish I had more to share!

It is pretty crazy to even have a book in the competition! All the others have more clout than I do. Famous Actors, Best selling authors and illustrators, and even a Nobel prize winner!!

My book doesn't even hit till March!

Other than that I've been working for Disney on the Tron stuff (for the game). Been having a TOTAL blast! (I am almost positive I saw some of your kick butt work on it too right!) Alas most of my current work is still under NDA wraps, and I haven't had much to share! But I really wanted to share this news with CA!

I hope y'all got a kick out of the movies! I edited them myself (with my good pal Angela DiTerlizzi directing.) I know nothing about making greenscreen movies and animation. Just kinda winging it!

Thanks MAtt!! I tell you what it was a crazy evolution to arrive at this style for JUMP! I went through so many! But none were right till I hit this one. I am a big believer in finding the right style for the poject and not trying to force a style that doesn't fit the function. I needed something playful exciting and fun. But the early stuff, though a blast to do, were a little more... "I"M GONNA BITE YOUR FACE OFF!!!!!" But this book is for the littlest of little kids. I should share some of the evolution. Y'all might get a kick out of it!

    Thanks for the votes dudes!!!

Cool I will totally dig up some if the evolution of JUMP for y'all to see.

I should also say, that if I indeed do get into the Cheerios boxes, I actually don't profit from it at all! No royalties or anything. Just the satisfaction that my book is going into millions of hands of kids who otherwise might not even have books. A big donation goes to First Book. A huge not for profit agency that gets books into the hands of needy kids. Such a cool program!

Allrighty, lets get into some of the history behind JUMP! The funny thing is it didn't start as a book, it started as a song I would play for kids at school visits and stuff! But as the story goes, at one such performance, there happened to be the prez of S&S kids. After i finished the song he said, "That should be a book!" I know, crazy right! So I got to working on a book dummy and started with a couple rough sequential bits. This is the first Jump art I did, looking at it reminds me how far it came!

Really this was about setting up a the rhythm, and this rhythm was the template for the whole book all the way to the finished product.

These are just purple pencil multiplied on top of a toned sheet of watercolor paper that I then colored with hue/saturation and brightness/contrast.

This is where it wound up! All finals are ink and watercolor, funny, as I get moe and more digital on my grown up stuff, I get more traditional on the young stuff!

Please remember to vote here! http://promo.simonandschuster.com/ch...-poll/poll.php

    Too be continued!

Very strong works; You have a very wide range of your works in your portfolio, all in different styles, and you handle them all with a lot of effort and care... And it shows; I dig the 'pirate' image the most, very interesting imagery.

    Keep them coming!

The book looks great! Seems perfect for the age group. I'm sure it'll be a hit whether it gets in those Cherrios boxes or not. But I've been voting every day for you, bro!

Many thanks for posting the development stuff, Scott. I think there's sometimes a perception that this stuff just happens, especially when the style is so superficially simple.

Nice to see the ingredients which went into such a tasty cake!
