Nice start, I think you should experiment around with the opacity and flow of your brushes, will make for a much more even and smoother surface, keep posting![]()

Updates
I keep having trouble remembering to keep my lines light and clean. They keep coming out too heavy/dark/scratchy. Ended up ruining alot
Art dump for the last 3 weeks, in no particular order. Exercises from life drawing/art classes, posemania, and random doodles.
The thing that frustrates me now is, sometimes I feel as if I get the idea behind, and I actually "Feel" it. Gesture that is. At other times, I find myself lost again - often immediately after a short period of "!!!!" moments when I thought I got it, and often when I try to think about what I did right... I just cant figure it out. It gets to the point where I just shut off my brain and start copying whats in front of me. Pointless and counter productive I know. But sometimes you just do so without being aware of it
anw, crits/advice/comments appreciated.
cheers.

SP day 2009
Updates. SPs. been studying plane breaks.
Head studies this week.. results.
Hey Waine, good to see so much work being done, good job!
Ya know, I had the same problem when I was in school. There is an unwritten rule to be quick and accurate in life drawing class (at least that's the way I saw it back then) and my work looked similar to yours. I couldn't figure it out either and it really bugged me. Then one day I had an epiphany when I caught myself subconsciously trying to keep up with everyone else in the room. At that moment I decided that maybe I should slow down and just think about where I was putting my lines and make them count.
I suggest taking a hard look at the model and really study him/her before you even start drawing. Trace the model in your mind as you study it (i.e. make a mental road map) and take note of the major points (spine, shoulders, hips, ect.) in relation to the space they occupy. Usually, if you can get the spine and shoulder lines down on paper correctly, then the rest just kind of falls in place. Understanding negative space helps a lot, too... at least it did for me.
I guess what I'm saying is, do your best to concentrate on what you're drawing and pay attention to what you're thinking while you do it. Easier said than done, I know, but using this method solved my problem... so, perhaps it will be useful to you, as well. Anyway, give it a shot and see what happens.![]()
updates. getting my own small studio set up. darn plaster casts are really expensive. Did get christmas sale discounts on other stuff though. Got an easel for real cheap.![]()
Focus just a little more on gesture and structure, that way you'll avoid proportion issues

Started to do a self-portrait every day. Didn't manage to finish this one coz I couldn't get the other eye to look right. It's always been a problem, trying to get the eyes to look like a pair.
