I really love the horns on the dinosaur, the action there is great as well and the detail is really nice. I love the teeth especially. I can't really give much crit wise, the only thing I can think of is to adjust the upper part of the dino's left leg( our right) where it's near the body a little since right now it looks a little too straight and parallel to the body to be pushing as far back as I think you want it too be. Then again, I really have no right to crit this and what I pointed out is pretty minor. Can't wait to see it finished!

Cheers Mario that means a lot coming from you. Have been trying to get more dynamic light and movement into my images. Think I'm finally closing in on a technique that works for me. Much love!

Velocity: That's great to know because I thought they were a lot more interesting than the design that was chosen.

Do NOT tell me you actually worked on "Doctor Who"! Oh my! *insert total fanboy sounding squee* So, you designed those fish aliens they used in "Vampires in Venice"? Gosh...excellent work! As for the UK space ship in "The beast below"...well, I definitely could imagine one of your designs being used as well.

And the rest of your SB is also of standard "envious making" quality. Please do keep posting!

Your last beast is scary! I like the way you build up your paintings. Are you using Painter or Photo Shop?

Are you a fan of Brian Froud and Alan Lee?
Yes I love both artist's artworks

I thought so! Me too I particularly love Alan Lee, amazing water colours. Thanks She's meant to be a pretty terrifying, disgusting demon lady. You should have a go at CHOW it's a great way expand your horizons, getting to to paint stuff you never would have thought of doing. And you get lots of really helpful crits which are so important.

Yeah I'm using photoshop, starting with purely black and white with the pen pressure set to size so I can very quickly get my idea down. Then I start to work away at it, hopefully solving composition and proportion issues before I start to add colour. I do this by mutiplying the B&W layer and colouring the layer under and touching up on a layer above. I also add colour overlay layer on top if I want to really enhance colour. It's not perfect yet but I'm working on it

Man awsome stuff, first time here! I remmember seeing your stuff in the four horsemen chow!! Looks like that photoshop technique of starting digis is really working for you, love the dinosoar and can't wait to see it colored.

Do you start your black and white shapes with a lasso tool or something or is it strickly freehand? Also, what inspires your black and white sketches form the start. Do you have a clear image in your head, or are you working just on compositional shapes...ect? I don't know if this makes sense, but was just curious.

brentos: Thanks man. It's always nice to get a compliment with so many amazing peeps on this site. It's pretty intimidating sometimes...

No I start with the pen pressure set to size in my brush settings and work purely in B&W. It forces me to be really loose with shapes, the aim is to get dramatic light and shape into my paintings. Then I start to put in the mid tones, then the colour. As for the ideas I generally have some clue to what I want to achieve but it can completely change during the process

Just stumbled across your sketchbook and I thought I would drop a comment to say "That's some beautiful artwork!" Really love your CHOW on Rangda. She's looking real creepy! I think I will be subscribing to your thread here.

May I ask, when did you start out doing art in a more serious manner?

Hey man, thanks for dropping a comment in my thread. To answer your question, I preferred your image without glowing skulls. They took my attention away from that freaky face of hers. Nice idea though, but yes I think it's a bit much. It also steals some of that nightmarish feel you have got going on.

Just my opinion though, it is your image afterall.

I was going to call this done but then crookedhorn gave me some awesome lighting ideas on the CHOW thread. Warm up the colour of the baby cool down the skulls with the rim light on the babies face to tei them together. Good and evil and all that jazz! Will try to put them into effect by tomorrow

Fudgeloaf: Thanks man! It's all down to listening to good crits I think. Been digi painting just under 2 and a half years

Congrats man, That's awesome! The green light in the skulls look better and nice that you didn't make them glow so bright. Her eyes still catch my attention. I like how you added war paint to her arm and leg. Love this image, great work!
