my writing is small, so ill try and sum it up here:

well, it was initially meant to be a mobile fortress... i tried some larger, clunkier designs but wasnt happy with them. plus, since they were so huge, they obviously would be very nimble in any environment. then i came up with the spider concept. it was still a fortress, but i tried to make it seem like a roaming colony, including military support and such. all those folded legs drawn to the side were just ideas for how the machine would plant itself to the ground in 'fortress' mode. at this time, i was thinking of this machine on the absolutely gigantic scale. the final design is still large, able to house several hundred troops + fuel and rations, but not nearly so much as earlier designed.

where the legs meet the body, there is sort of a ball in socket joint, reminiscient of the gun turrets on mechs in star wars and countless other sci fi's. in the first joint in the leg there is another ball and socket joint, and finally the last joint in the leg is a hinge joint. those spires jutting up from the body contain, at lower levels, extra fuel slupplies for the motors in each leg, rations for troops and other neccessities. the core of the body is what houses the troops, and at the underbelly of it, there is some more machine and computers used to actually control the spider itself.

my first sketches had more of a machine feel, but they were to clunky and ugly, so i decided on the organic feel. im still trying to get a larger version of the pic done, but im not having too much luck with it. i decided on a spider-shape because it would meet the ability to cross just about any terrain thrown at it, including shallow ocean. though the spider isnt as huge as first interpreted, its still pretty damn big. what these things do is enter small cities or towns, plant itself on the ground, and wa la, after killing most everything in sight with the external weapons, troops exit the vehicle and take down anyone left standing. in an invasion there are a bunch of these things, that way the enemy is being hit in multiple internal positions. usually though they cant get into enemy cities untill other units take out the border defenses, but after that its pretty much game over.

thanks for taking the time to look hopefully ill have a bigger and cleaner(full of those details you miss) version to offer later on.

Oh great... so much for my originality...

The idea of a complete moving fortress is pretty cool idea though. I have a one man motored spider scooter finished. Wanna see it anyway? (In a new thread offcourse...)

Sorry Chris, apparently I still have a reading disorder..

post it anyway! it wouldnt matter if two people made a 6 wheeled vehicle, so why would it matter if two people had a spider vehicle? im looking forward to seeing other peoples ideas!
