takashmen - Thanks man. Yeah, I didn't do much work typography wise this time, I'm trying to keep it the same and only change the image. Worked better with the last one.

OK, I got up today determined to make some brushes I like. Took one of dan liimatta's paintings from my Inspiration folder, and played around with brushes until it worked well enough to try painting. The eye in the forehead and the lower right ear are mine. Be sure to check out dan's sketchbook, he has some crazy skills.

    teapo - Thanks man.

Here's a quick signature I made for a friend on OHG.

And one of the GFX Staff there had the bright idea of making a tag wall, kind of a compilation of all the best signatures made there in the past few months. Four of mine made it up there, see if you can spot them. My name there is President_Choob BTW.

Lightship69 - Thanks man. Haha yeah, I always think that the three-eyed guy is looking at me disapprovingly, telling me to get onto the next page already.

LtPlissken - I'm happy to know you too, probably one of the nicest people on CA. Will try get up and running again soon, but have had some problems as you can see below.

I'm so sorry for the lack of updates guys, but Photoshop isn't letting me open it at the moment. That means I can't even post my non-digital stuff, since I need Photoshop so I can resize and crop the photos so they're not like 9000 pixels wide.

Looking for solutions as I type, so hopefully will be back up soon. Again, I'm sorry.

EDIT: No progress thus far on Photoshop, but managed to clumsily crop and resize some work in Painter. Took me almost 5 minutes to find the resize button. Basic scribbles, ideas, and a note or two on the placement of knuckles.

Also, I started back at Uni this week, so far it's been fun, especially since I'm in a flat with my friends. And here's a picture of a sunset, taken from my bedroom window at home a few days before I moved up.

    LtPlissken - Thanks man.

Good news, to an extent. Completely uninstalled Photoshop and installed a new trial, which is working for now, but rejecting my current keygen. Have 30 days to find a fix. Here's a couple of pages from my sketchbook (so near to finishing it ), mixed studies, doodles, ideas, and inspiration from Portal. Done in one stroke, of course.

Also, I'm working my way through Flash, another program I downloaded, trying out lip-syncing. Takes a while, but will post the video when I'm done.

Finally got my Life Drawing work back from last year. Please bear in mind that this is last year's work, I've definitely improved since then.

I quite liked the lighting on the elbow and front of the torso on this one, so here's a dramatic close-up.

You might remember these pieces, had to do 2 muscle and 2 bone studies:

    10 minute studies in pen.

This one went OK from memory, proportions were a bit off, but I liked how the back turned out:

We had a big lady as the model for this one, was very hard to draw. Not exaggerating the curves from memory, she was genuinely this big. Liked the head though.

And my favourite one, which I now have on my wall.

Also, took this picture to show scale of pieces, and then shooped in Clint's face because I'm awesome like that.

I dont know what you are worried about those life drawings ain that bad mate, and I could see you finishing off some of them into full blown paintings. Its good to see some ordinary people in pictures, by that I mean real people not the plastic supermodels with no boobs and shitty attitudes.

Keep at it my mate, I am still inspired by your arty ness!!

Lightship69 - Thanks man. Real people are the best to draw, and so much more beautiful than Megan Fox, or any of these "supermodels".

    And now, good news everyone!

My photoshop is finally back up and running like the old days! I stumbled across a code which worked perfectly, so I now have the full working version again. I think most of the codes are for Subscription versions, which means that they need renewed, and so Adobe needs to register and check on you regularly. Either way, I'm back, and my hands are itching to start digital painting again.

Today, a study of a picture I took in an Edinburgh museum last week. Pretty cool bust, and the lighting was great. WIP, about 40 minutes.

LtPlissken - Haha, on a soft bed? Lend you money? Not a chance man, I'm as skint as everyone else. I may have got Photoshop, but I did it without paying money, by using... magic.

Mat Kaminski - Thanks man, appreciate the feedback.

Here's my contribution to today's International Self-Portrait Day. I started out realistically, and then got bored and started playing with brushes. Spent between 3 and 4 hours on it.

Speed sketch for the DSG - "CREEPY FACELESS BEAST HAS TATTERED, RUSTING, FLESH". I'm not doing enough art, so going to enter it regularly, to try keep myself moving.

Had an idea about how scientists could experiment on zombies/infected to see just how much damage they can take without dying (which turns out to be a lot). Infected then break free and infect everyone, as in every zombie movie, despite being horrible maimed, missing limbs, faces, etc.

    I love the self-portrait.

How long did it take on both the DSG and the portrait?

Besides that I encourage you... MORE art hehe

Mat Kaminski - Thanks man. The self portrait took around 3 hours, and the DSG took about half an hour.

Now, got an awesome little sketchbook this week, it's a leatherbound A6 journal/moleskine-esqe book, and it's great for doodling. I also have some good quality .5 mechanical pencils, and a new brush pen for inking. Here's some shots of my first experiments.

Might be using this sketchbook purely for animation and gesture drawing actually, I've been really getting into that at the moment. Hence all the crappy doodles, sorry, "cartoon style", and the couple of Disney sketches. Also, I was up until 3am last night reading "The Animator's Survival Kit" as you can see in one of the sketches, very very good book.

EDIT: Almost forgot this. Quick digital paintover to try out a Western themed costume for the Sniper in Team Fortress 2.

    LtPlissken - Thanks man.

Lightship69 - I could give more cartoons a shot I suppose. For animation this semester we have to base our work on inspiration from one of 5 directors the tutor likes, I chose Miyazaki; the genius behind Studio Ghibli. While I'm not a huge anime fan, I have to admit that art and animation wise, his work is beautiful.

knut- - Thanks for dropping by.

    D.M. - Cheers, I try haha.

Izene - Thanks! More coming soon hopefully.

tronrobot - Thanks man, yeah, such a great book. I've got Art and Fear now too, that's pretty good.

So, my computer is finally recognising my camera again, after doing countless restores, scans, and reinstalls. And should get my life drawing work back in a week or so.

First, these are the ink sketches that I did for inimic's Secret Santa this year. A4 paper, and did it straight in ink, no pencils or such first.

Her Secret Santa to me was late, but she added more goodies to make up for it.

Truffles and some Ferrero Rocher, which I assure you tasted wonderful. Shared the truffles with my family, and have the rest waiting in my room for when I come home. Also, a set of pencils and a drawing pad with great paper.

And then her art, which blew me away. A beautiful owl, done in inks apparently. Thanks so much inimic, your present was a lovely surprise.

And here's the canvas I made for my parents. Slightly bigger than 2 square foot, done with acrylics. My first time with canvas, worked OK. It's hung on the wall over the stairs, thought it was appropriate what with the character overlooking the abyss. It's called "Hero", will try get better photos this weekend.

A screenshot of the minigame I made for Uni coursework. It's an iPod/iPhone app, where you click the trollface and it blows up and you get 1 point or 5, depending on the trollface.

And some daily sketches. Although my resolution this year was to draw everyday (still going strong), I'm not going to post all of them, since many are terrible doodles done in the wee hours of the morning. All imagination, pens and pencils. Last one is meant to be the Demoman from TF2.

That's all for now, but as I say, last semester's Life Drawing will be returned to us soon, we were meant to get it today, but there's a problem apparently.

    Life Drawing ho.

First, portraits, I don't have the time noted down, but I'd guess around 15-20 minutes.

Then some unusual exercises we had to do. The top one was done with my left hand, the bottom left was done with charcoal stuck on the end of a paintbrush, and the bottom right was done standing next to the board, so we couldn't see it at all.

The blind one was a pain, but I tried to do it in one stroke, so it looks vaguely human shaped.

Quick pose and then some 5 minute sketches.

Did something new for these ones too; we had the model walk round in a circle on the stage, and every 30 seconds, the tutor would say next pose. We had to try capture the movement as quickly as possible, especially since the model was still moving. Quite like how loose they are, I'm usually very rigid in my drawing.

    Close ups.

Long pose next, in which we had to use woodstain or something.

This one was quite a long pose from memory, maybe an hour or so. Quite like the elbow and forearm area on this one.

Sitting pose, probably about 45 minutes to an hour.

A long pose where we had to use pastels.

This week there was some exhibition on, with alternate bikes and transport. The models sat down in them and we had to draw them.

Also, anyone notice the resemblance between that and Squidward's thing?

The next week we all trooped down the the theatre, where we got to draw people who were rehearsing for the Christmas pantomime. They kept turning the lights off, changing the stage, moving round, so annoying to try draw. Still, had fun trying out white ink pens.

And the final week, where we got to choose our media. Naturally, mine was charcoal and chalk on toned paper. My favourite piece from the semester, parents might be sticking it on the wall somewhere if we can find any space.

Also, while putting my life drawing work into my folder, I found this piece from high school, which I can't remember if I showed it or not. The idea was to do something inspired by Byroglyphics' artwork, hence the red splatters and messy painting style. Thought you'd like to see it to see how I've improved.

Getting back into digital painting at the moment since this is my week off. Might have a study done before I go back, if not, then it'll be back to uni work, which I'll post here when I can. Have to do animation tests soon, I'll see if I can upload the video.

BlasteR - Thanks man, and no problem, I'm constantly dropping in to people's sketchbooks. There's some really talented people round here.

Here's a couple of animation and group project sketches and storyboard roughs, full post and explanations can be found on my blog. Have so much work to do, don't have any time for digital paintings. Still, not long left now, and then months of the summer holiday to get better at everything.

Have some of my daily sketches to upload too, will be later this week probably.

    -D_art- - Thanks man.

Here's a bunch of my daily sketches. Sorry these posts are always so huge, I don't have much time to upload things, so when I do, I have a massive backlog. More to come later this week.

UPDATE: My name has now changed from Droid to Choob. Makes sense to change it because I'm known as Choob literally everywhere else, even IRL. You'll get used to it, don't worry. Also, Livestream name has changed from "DroidUK" to "Chooby", to keep things consistent. If you see me in the chat, say hi.

Here's the new blog title picture since the name change, the picture is one of my favourite pieces by Jama.

More actual work coming soon, I have some sketches to upload and some progress on the interactive comic.
