Would anyone care to help a novice with a perspective drawing of a blade?

I'm currently trying to do a fanart of a game of my own pleasure. I'm not an advanced artist; I haven't done any studies and I don't use any reference, so I mostly draw from mind. As you can guess, I'm not very good at drawing correctly or troubleshooting when I run into a problem. The problem I'm running into with this piece (incomplete sketch) is the perspective of the blade's held onto each of her arms.

I'll accept any critique and also any suggestions on how to make the blades fit better.

P.s I'm going to make the fabric hanging from her waste flow more in accordance to her pose. Also, I took the pictures via a phone, and I have no means to rotate the pictures, sorry.

There's your first problem right there.

Try cutting out a piece of cardboard in the shape of the blade, then use that for reference. Finding some reference for the figure wouldn't hurt, either.

The cardboard cut out is an excellent idea. Apart from that, I wouldn't know where to start when it came to actually doing studies. I've honestly never had to or wanted to do one until recently. I've never been enrolled into any art classes other than Art I in highschool as a freshmen (six years ago). When it comes to doing a study, do you just look and draw?
