HELP - Alcohol Torch & spare NSP in UK

Howdy All,
Here I go begging favours again, apologies :-)

Firstly can anyone tell me where to get an Alcohol Torch in the UK? Looks like one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzqNmLJG7JU

Secondly I want to get a feel for Chavant NSP Soft & Medium so was wondering if anyone in the UK has some spare? I will pay P&P and whatever you want for the 'blocks' (upto £9 per lb which is price on Tiranti.co.uk)

There we go, another step closer to an easier life, lol

that alcahol tourch looks like a world of pain...that amount of flamable liquid so close to an egnition sorce and only being in a plastic container..madness.
if you want to melt your wax or chavant just stick it in a jar or tuperware and heat it with a desk lamp with a 60 or 100 watt buld it will melt very quickly if your trying to smooth stuff out with heat your better off not as you tend to loose any deatail you might have had. or you can get butain pen torches or a soldering iron.

also if your prepaired to pay the terantis price for chavant then why not just order some from them? i do think there prices are stupidly jacked up i would give mould life a try the link below is to the page you want.

Hi Darkwulf, I know what you mean about the torch, had the same trouble. Best answer I got was an outdoor paraffin lamp, a kitchen blow torch or a hairdryer.

I've got a 2lb block of Chavant NSP soft, still sealed. You can have it, I'll send it out with your Halo trophy if you shout the extra postage.
I bought 2 blocks to try it out, but not my cuppa tea

sloopster: Lol, I see what you mean about madness but it is used safely by many sculptors. However the links you have given me (plus lack of alcohol torch) are helping me look in other directions. Thank you kindly....

Just my two cents - you can get yourself a heat gun to soften Chavant, the type usually used to strip paint will do the trick - I've seen them in Homebase for about £20. I think that paraffin one does look a little risky if you ask me!

You can even melt the chavant so it's liquid and drip it into a mold should you need to.

The Dark Power: Cheers for that insight. I've seen your success so far with NSP Medium and O.l.Droid, congratulations

I'm just figuring out that my 'style' is hands on pushing clay around with fingers and tools, for which NSP Hard is rather unforgiving. So I'm torn between trying a softer NSP than Hard or heating areas of 'Hard' to make it more workable.

SO as with all experiments I'm going to try both approaches ;-)

wow there must be a safer way to do this that have an add-hoc petol bomb in your hand the whole time. This looks so dangerous it makes me grit my teeth thinking of what might happen. Perhaps a heat gun with a few adjustable settings might be a safer option?

but for people looking to buy chavant..dauphines of bristol sell them at about £4.50 each and combined shipping is a much better deal than tirantis

Ha! Nice little unit. Always made my own from a small aluminium tin, push a hole through the lid, wick goes in, paraffin oil in the tin and you are good to go!
