Goblin update. Am hoping to get a few variants complete this week for the 'rabble' units. They look a bit basic at the moment but they will form the lowest ranks of the Horde. Some accessories, belts, knives, etc. to add interest but these lowly scum will be equipped with modified farm tools at best. I want them to look very different from the more impressive 'shock' troops to come later.

'Ingame' mesh with normal maps. I'll complete the diffuse for the tunic today.

Thanks, MeteorCat. I've added some more detailing to make it look like rough hessian. I'll add some more close-ups later.

Great figure studies! Very nice work on the models as well! I think I am going to be hitting up the 3D this summer, definitely a skill worth having in the industry.

Thanks. Something really satisfying about making low-poly work. Reminding myself of the 'good ol' days'.

Indeed! I've just checked out your progress, putting me to shame! I've been resting up a bit lately, well - been pretty hectic at work so all personal stuff has had to be on hold. On my Christmas break now, so I've been looking into Dynamesh and Polypainting to see how they can be of use during the character-build pipeline.

A couple of stylised bunnies (as my daughter likes bunnies), and a troll WIP to add to the goblin forces.

Love the last sketch's feeling of volume, great tits!
But you goblin's texture is aweful, the same green hue all-over?
Mix his skintones up with other greens, give him some yellow spocs or something, give the eye some variation.
Use a specular map to enhance the difference in materials, everything looks the same (in a dull way)
The flag is nicely done although I don't know about the burnt part in it, doesn't seem right.
Tune up your shader/renderer for a better lightening situation, more defined drop-shadows and more color.

    Just my 2 cents

Hey Grafguy. Thanks for the feedback; the goblin project is very much an ongoing thing and likely to evolve as I go along. Will definitely take on board your input when I revisit them.

    A review of the year????

This is turning into a full-on update of the year gone by now that I've started!

Bit of published work, amidst an interview last Easter with Indies4Indies. A talented and truly professional bunch, well worth checking out their work; http://www.indies4indies.com/

Awesome! I love dynamesh. 3d is a LOT less painful now I can make everything inside Zbrush. No faffing with Max, no bad topology messing up a bit of a sculpt. I've only dabbled with polypaint but it seems pretty powerful.

    Love your life drawings!

Yeah, really impressed with your progress - I need to look into all these changes to CA.org. I prefer the image upload, but not getting all the notifications I once was. See My Settings, methinks.

Yes, just diffuse. I was practicing on handpainting textures, you include the lightening and highlights in the texture. This way you don't really need a shader to render, just put the model on 100% self illumination. This is often practiced for handheld games.
    Thnx for stopping by!

Ah, the old-fashioned way, eh? I miss those days where you got to paint textures. That said, looking forward to what the next-gen consoles can offer next year. Likewise, thanks for stopping by.
