Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook :-). Your sketches (with conte?) are beautiful and your Chow entry has lots of attitude.
Thanks for returning the visit!Yes, I like using conté / good quality coloured pencils when I can wrangle a sitter for half an hour or so. I'm putting together more life classes this month so will update once I have some more.

Hey, nice studies, the one of the girl in the purple dress is very nice. On the portrait above that, the girls eye on the right seems to shrink a bit, maybe because of her hair?
Hmmm, I think you may be right, KT. I've done a few studies now - likeness is really challenging for some reason. So much so, I've drawn up a longer pencil study of Carola to try and improve. Thanks for feedback.

I'm amazed at how fast you can paint, but still make the drawings look great.
I enjoyed looking through your sketchbook.

Thanks for the compliment bish0p2004. I've confined these studies to my half-hour lunchbreaks at work, as I prefer to 'go traditional' on the evening to keep the pencil / pen skills in check. It was a conscious decision to churn out one-a-day and to keep this sketchbook 'alive'. I'm finding I'm taking longer on each one now though, probably as I'm understanding the model better and so enjoying it more.
Life drawing is kicking off for me in 2 weeks, so these studies will keep me busy until then. Thanks again for commenting.

Great studies and characters.Bots in the posts #128 and 129 are beyond me - pure coolness.
Am really enjoying these! I love to see your traditional work too.
The hair on the girl portrait is amazing!
Thanks for the comments, all.
I've finished the latest study. Well, I say finished - lunchtime is over and I really need to move onto other stuff. 'Abandoned' ... with samples of textures I used as overlays for the clothing and skin pores.

Beautiful paintings as usual! Your latest pencil sketch is great, although I think the right eye looks a little flat. Remember that the eyelids wrap around the eyeball; this tutorial explains it a bit more:

Thanks for commenting, fellas. A couple from last night's drawing session - concentrating on bolder 'gestural' mark-making... to blow the cobwebs off as much as anything else.
