Well, hi, I'm new here!!! I have come across this site by accident and after lurking around for a whíle I decided to register finally. I have spent most of my time with making 3D models, but now I want to learn some 2D concept art too. I just have started with digital paintings three weeks ago and so I haven't yet that much drawings to present and my skillz are not that good compared to what I saw in the other Sketchbooks here.

But I have joined this place in order to learn from you and get a bit better. Please feel free to give constructive criticism and advice, but let me live!!!

@clockworksnail: Yes, I will continue on this one!!! I want to add a whole scene, some environment in the bachground and maybe making the creature running away from a swarm of bees or winding through a rain of arrows.

@clockworksnail: Would be a good idea too, but I already made something like this. Maybe I could draw some ugly, monsterlike guards, who are after the little guy!!!

I like that pig-like monster thing, especially the skin details ^^ you could try using some more colours, like a little violet in the shadows for example

Here some quick concept art, made from different stock foto samples and some small overpainting here and there. Maybe I'll make it a real digital painting some day!!!

Hi mate, sorry for the late reply. The demon artvark wasn't worked on lately. Was too busy doing matte paintings, 3D models and stuff. But I will continue on it when I have some more freetime again.

With samples I mean cutouts from other fotos, which I mix together. You may call it a colage!!!

I found this textures on your last characters quite disturbing, but those are only my innocent eyes New composing is very good, I like the colors. Maybe depth of field could be worked out a bit. It's a nice start, keep it up!

@Ivan Turcin: Thx, I have to agree with you concerning the textures on the last character. My problem is I am no photographer yet, so I depend on stock fotos, posers and 3D Models. The last character was a poser and it's skin looked like grey plastic so I had to put at least some texture on it.

@: Frittzell(Image): Thank you too, that motivates me to go on!!! The Avatar is from the game "The Elderscrolls III - Morrowind", it's an old offline game and I'm doing a bit modding for it as a hobby.

Heya Colt

Interesting style you have going on here!

I don't know what are your goals, in terms of if you want to follow, continue with this collage approach (1), or an hybrid of painting\collage (2), or just painting\drawing(3). So:

(1) - You seem to be somewhat confortable when it comes to composition. I think that some color variety could go a long way now, as well as better "blending" the photos to one another. Also, instead of gluing stuff that is definetly literal (a building, a person, etc), tear them apart, mix and mash them. For instance, make a robot out of building parts, human parts, etc. You get the idea I hope

(2) - Same as 1, but you should integrate some free painting on it. Sometimes, instead of copying a building in there, paint it, design it, and only then get bits of photos to complement it.

(3) - Lotsa lotsa studies! Of everything, even that fly that is bugging you while you paint (well, just dont kill it ). And don't be shy to post the results here, even if you think its crap (usually we all think our work is crap lol). As long as you are critical about it, its all good, and others can help you spot what you may have missed

Thx for that explicit critics, much aprecciated!!! In fact I want to make matte paintings, but all my attempts to mix real fotos with selfpainted elements did look odd so far. I just don't know how to do it technically and there aren't any good tutorials available so far. You see some where people have pasted in some broken parts into some buildings, but that's all.

When I try to paint something into a composition you can always tell from first view what is painting and what is foto, don't know how to get rid of that. I studied 2 years graphic design and arts and in theory I do know how to paint fotorealistic, maybe it's only my lazyness and a lack of practice that stands in my way at the moment.

So, well I should train some more and Iwill post all that crap I will produce, lol!!!

I made some matte painting tests today and I must say, although I always wanted to learn matte painting. it sucks a lot to me to have to paint into a foto. Don't know why, but this kind of workflow is no fun to me at all. So I think I will stay with my foto composings and on the other hand make real drawings.


Tried to paint some organic stuff into a foto of a machine, but after half an hour of work I thought to myself, that I'd be better of drawing it all by hand and get rid of the foto.

I absolutely adore the blue gremlin looking thing in those two odd glowy eye drawings. The style is so gritty and secretive, like drawing in wet sand ^_^

Good that you remind me of the little blue monster, totally forgot about that unfinished WIP. Well, at least I have to show a small update on this.

The wet sand effect of that drawing actually is a photoshop filter. Normally such things have not to show up in a painting, but somehow I liked it on this drawing and so I left it like that.

Oh, since I'm here, I may also post my new WIP, for all those who don't show up in the critics section. Mmh, looking at this thread's hit-count I better shouldn't talk of "all those", lol!!!

What do you mean with "some pencils", real drawings or what? In that case I'm afraid I can't. I haven't drawn a single picture for more than 10 years and just startet with painting digital three month ago. Only real drawings I have are some sketches from back in school, but at the moment I have no scanner available to get them digitalized.

Hi mate, nice to see you around here again!!! I'm fine and doing a lot of painting at the moment, hope I can improve my drawings. The last one actually turned out better than I had expected.

I'm going to draw another picture featuring some human-animal hybrid. It's kinda funny to see how these creatures puzzle together from scratch till they're finished.

Hopefully I'll be able to post some first screen by the end of the weekend!!!

Just began with a new matte painting, some Giger-style metallic woman in an erotic pose. I painted the pose after a foto reference but I'm not that happy with it, especially the upper body. 2nd arn is still missing, haven't yet decided where to put it. Anyways, what ya think?!


PS: Does anyone know, how I can add an attachment to my sketchbook saying "nudity" afterwards. I have no clue at all???

Thx for good critics and help with the prefix, will check it out!!! Here's something, which is a bit different than just drawings. Let's call it concept art in practical use. I'm modding an old pc game and when I got the time, I make a fewcustom 3D-models in blender and custom textures in photoshop.

I made a couple flying isles, which are fully animated with all kind of stuff, like animated textures, rigged animations, particle animations and so on. Plus I made some armor modification, meaning retexturing the whole stuff with my own textures. Helmets and weapons were made and animated by myself. The one has a steam outlets and the other one has a moving light like the cylons of battlestar galactica have.

The resolution of the textures is not the best, because everything in the game looks a bit blurry and it had to match that and for those who are known to texturing, let it be mentioned that this game doesn't support normal maps and bump maps look very crappy!!!


PS: I won't make this a game thread, but I'll show some handmade stuff from time to time!!!
