    Character design for personal project NGN [Update 10/09]

    Hi all, my name is Daniel Comerci, I'm a graphic designer and artist from Italy, this is my first post in this section (and really in the forum too). I watch the amazing works here almost everyday, but never contributed to the community. Now is my moment, hope to have critics and advises on my works.
    I'm posting here now some character design for a personal project that I'm working on at the moment, is a science fiction graphic novel/comic/rpg campaign setting (maybe I'll do all of this if the project grows well).

    Here another concept for a female character, I'll be pleased to receive critics on the piece. (If you want give me suggestion too on a possible setting to put her in, because I'm really a noob in landscapes and ambients painting)

    yes, nice work. I like the mix of personal an typical sci-fi style.
    The cyborg is very cool.....just a dubt: it seems the clothes are not very comfortable for soldiers....

    Hi, thank you for the comment! You have in part reason, in fact I don't have payed so much attention to the realism, but I've pointed to the general aesthetics of the character. I've studied those clothes as "outlander suites", large and warm for heavy duties, taking inspiration by modern pilot suites and snowboard/motorcycle clothes.

    nice- i see hints of ed guiton's style and a dash of AT-43, but with a good personal flair

    hi!Really love Guiton, not so much AT-43 style. For this work I've taken inspiration from modern anime style(it is my first attempt in "anime-like" colourizing), expecially gits, ergo proxy, afro samurai etc...I think I pointed the general aesthetics, but had some difficulties in shadows and cleanup, what do you think?

    @Defiled

    Can you explain a little bit what you think is sloppy in that illustration(colors, shadows, anatomy, other)? If you think I was using the same style of the first you make a mistake, otherwise I'm really interested in having some advices! Thanks!

    the first series of characters are looking great, but I have to agree with Defiled. the girl in the update just doesn`t match in terms of quality. the first round has a nice feel with the almost cell shaded look and cartoony, but still realistic proportions and details. I think the biggest problem with the girl is the rendering of the armor, what looks unfinished and muddy in comparison of your other works. beside that there are some minor anatomy faults on the girl (breasts/breastplates, pointy head) what makes her look a bit weird. dont get me wrong, I like the design, just fixing these small things could make it even better.
    otherwise great stuff! post more!

    Thank you all, expecially defiled and mr. m, you have pointed some major problems I've noticed in this last work, not much for the anatomy errors (I've made she a little bit non realistic to increase the impact) but expecially for the armor, junctions and textures. I'm trying painting tecniques in which I'm not a specialist, so I'm going on by "try and fail".
    Thank for the advices!
