Fricken sweet, though I can't really grasp much from the trailer. Seems like a bit of a b-movie, hopefully it won't be as bad as Beowulf (the live action one)
Problem is, pagan Vikings are where its at, the Christianized ones shouldn't really be associated with Valhalla right?
We're not going to get into a Viking/Pagan/Christian what is real discussion here are we? Personally, I vote for My Little Pony........
NO! I hope not, not my intent. It's just that when I think Viking, I think Odin, Thor, those guys. It's just the flavor that the pagan beliefs bring to them... and also the fact that if these norsemen are fighting for Jerusalem, and they are christian, calling the movie "Valhalla rising" doesn't fit does it?
I could be wrong, but wasn't the viking age over before Scandinavia converted anyways?
Probably on the cusp. Vikings were raiding the Scottish coast in 500+ and looting monasteries. Things are never as tidy as they should be.....
Edit; remember, we're talking Hollywood here. They had Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth meet at one point. Never actually happened.... and let's not think about Braveheart......
Or what was that steaming pile from a few years ago.....Pathfinder?
Yeah unfortunately viking movies tend to be really bad. Pathfinder was junk. Beowulf & Grendel wasn't much better. The look of Vallhalla Rising reminds me a lot of Beowulf & Grendel. B movie feel but nice locations. I wouldn't expect much from it though.
Heres an even lower-budget low budget viking movie:
Seems its finally available on netflix. I'll have to rent. Vikings vs Native Americans vs Christian Missionaries. I expect it to be horrible. Apparently there is a scene of one of the vikings pooping. And another scene where one of the Native gals rapes one of the vikings. Classy.
Its sad, the idea of a lone guy (viking) washing ashore in a completely alien wilderness (North America) could be a really nice intro into an interesting story. If it were more about alienation, paranoia, loneliness, and culture clash instead of sword swinging and pooping.

I was really hoping for mythical Norse awesomeness. I am disappointed.
The best Viking movie EVER is 'The Vikings' with Kirk Douglas, Janet Leigh, Tony Curtis and Ernest Borgnine. I mean... it was just SO historically accurate!
Im with ya Jason. Id rather have the Viking in a setting where there Gods and Myths are still in tact.
Im a huge fan of Stories surrounding Northmen/Vikings so I enjoy what I can indulge with as far as movies go. It doesn't mean I think there the best out there, but I wont beat them down either.
Like my Women, I take what I can get. JK

I think this is just a Viking movie.
There's no mention of the Norse gods like Odin, Freya, etc. Not what I was hoping for. Seriously one is made for the the Norse gods in the future because it will be so amazing.
There's a viking movie which was quite good called The 13th Warrior starring Antonio Banderas. Book was written by Michael Crichton.

Hadn't heard about that film before. I also love Viking films, adore the Norse mythology, so I might check it out, even though it does smell a tad like a b-film!
And since we're sharing info about other Viking films, you gotta check out an Icelandic Viking film from 1984Called 'Hrafninn flýgur' or 'When the raven flies'. That lame excuse for a trailer is definitely bad, but the film is the shit! It even seemed if the whole thing is available on YouTube, for those interested--but uh, not subtitled :/

Space Man Meets Vikings.
The main character is Jesus (Jim Caviezel)
Haha yeah I saw Outlander.
I gotta say, with an outrageous concept of a space man meeting viking they pulled it off pretty well. Obvious flaws between the two genre's combined but I think they pulled it off pretty well.

13th warrior is where it's at, but I definitely agree we need more THOR. As soon as I heard Jerusalem in that trailer it pretty much ruined it for me, but there's a good chance I'd see it anyway.
