Wow, lots of improvement just on this last page! Some really cool stuff here, like how you're going through the full character design process, and your doodles look great too.

I think putting your rendered character designs onto backgrounds is a pointless exercise though - because they were designed from silhouette and to demonstrate detail, they look wooden when placed on a backdrop. Keep them on the plain backgrounds, and when you put them on the backdrop give them more interesting poses.

    Just being nitpicky

You are getting better for sure. That last head is especially good, I just dont like the brush texture you got there. Something cleaner will look better in my opinion Anyway GJ and keep it up!

^^^ nice balance of warm and cool with that head. Sorta reminds me of Clive Barker's paintings, but much better and more solid. You work is progressing well. Not that I am surprised, you put in shitloads of effort.

Hey Nicky, great to see how much effort you are putting in and the steady progression. I noticed in a lot of your heads and characters drawings you place them standing straight on to the viewer, which is always going to make them look flat and stiff. Try some other angles to get more volume in there. With the enviros remember think 'foreground, midground, background' - that last one has lots of mid, but nothing in the foreground for example.

I haven't been on CA for a while and its great to come back and see you are still here and working hard away. Keep it up dude!

Your paintings are a bit distorted in there perspective, i use to have that problem. You should flip your canvas horizontally about once every 20 mins on your digital drawings it will help give you a fresh perspective and help bucket loads. some really trippy stuff in here too.

jakubvavrik - thanks dude! yea i am still experimenting a lot with texture brushes, trying to find a good fit for certain scenarios.

palladium - haha thanks man, i appreciate the visit again!!

pgf95 - ha thanks, im a big fan haha.

SpaceJelly - damn thanks dude i really appreciate it! i dont really see myself moving forward as much as i want to, but its nice to hear you think so!

Lightpunk - yea i hear you on the perspective thing. i do get into old habits very quickly while im sketching. bad force of habit. i have been trying a lot more to make my heads (at least in my sketchbook) from different angles. the enviros. . . i am in dire need to attention. i get veeeery lazy if im not painting something in action or something cool. i need to just motivate myself more to put in the extra effort. but big thanks for stopping by man, i very much appreciate it!!

whavner - uhhhh that seems very robot ish of you... im not clicking that link...

lupre - thanks a ton man!

tinnato - thanks dude! and yea my perspective needs a major overhaul. i tend to keep falling into the same mistakes, even though i have the knowledge to fix them, and should have the foresight to see them ahead of time. i think its mainly a motivational thing, but im working at it.

just some sketches of the Kappa i did in my grey toned sketchbook... used pen and prismacolor markers.

Keep up the great work mate!!! Becareful of this similar noise pattern. Read this article http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_educat...ary_shapes.htm mostly on the parts where he shows the noise stuff about areas of detail and areas of no detail.
Limit the highlights [the values closer to white in overall] or if you add so much highlights you need to introduce more blacks. Also smooth out things in the back to enhance depth

He was a baboon as a child, but he turned to a big mad ape as he matured and began to glide.
As he started to turn more bolder, he was caring only about his daughter.
The maniacal disease didn’t left his brain healthy either,
he’s buffer has been cleared, like a cow after she's been milked.
Suffering and joy in his eye at the same time, like a sun shifting to a star, nothing can became
more colorful than a midnight striptease bar. Overall the pack of baboon will follow him,
but neither of them will respect him as his mother did. Clenched teeth, curvy hair, greased
up underwear. I can feel the individual confusion and strict character related conflict within
his face and mind. You have delivered him hard and realistic in a backpedaling fashion,
both ways, side and up the same time. Very good job, keep up cleansing the mossy rain free humid alleys.

He turned his back toward our presence, which is a good step, cause you are leaving the audience
in deep silence and coincidence. They are wondering hard, what will his face look like when
he suddenly turns around. The audience is sitting and sweating at the same time. Sweating even
without their Christmas sweaters. I can insure you all, that he will not be pretty, I can see the back
of his neck being nasty and the top of his head busty. He will not be pretty like Beyonce, he will
be scary as Nick Nolte, or even worse. His strong body posture and thick legs show believable
signs of brute force. This painting captures the moments before the storm. In one word, when
he’ll turn around, hell will come to town. I like the way you handle different situation and
how you keep the positive spirit and attitude on a high level all the time.
