Nateman742's Streamlined Hectic Grindcore Technology Massacre

I'd say that's as good a SB title as any, that's what you're gonna get in here.

Big ol' batch of oldies first. Some of these date back two years. When I have my desktop computer handy I'll dump everything else.

EDIT: Hard drive on the desktop fried! Time to fill up a new folder!

And here's a small bit of newer stuff. I enjoy drawing in Paint and seeing all those hard pixels. Sorry for saving some of them in .jpg format, I have no foresight

I can't shake the feeling I'm missing something about the attachment manager. Is there a faster way to upload files to the site?

Hey Nate, welcome to ca.org. Sounds like you have big dreams and are in it for the long hall, good good. Sketches look pretty good, you mite need some focus, not sure if you have checked out the tutorial section of ca.org (also deviantart's tutorial section) or the education section, probably the best places to start if you wanna get rite to learning, and of course the crits and comments here in the sketchbook section will help a lot. There are also lots of books, hard copy or digital files that you can look into. Good luck.

Thanks for stopping by, Izer! I'll give those tutorials a look-see.

A few more days until I get to go home and draw. I've sort of fallen off the traditional media wagon ever since I got a tablet, now I depend on it. I'll have to work on that

Some nice sketches and pieces here.

Can't give any advice thus far (cause im a newb), except to keep at it. Practice practice practice! Keep on sketching and studying and whatnot. Good to see your out and about and doing something so you can aspire to do something in the long road.

Btw im the same. It was always.. "i'll play some COD4 for 15 minutes then do some drawings" 3 hours later it'd be 1-2 am and i'd be sleepy. So now its, i'm going to draw then play COD. hehe. Good stuff.

Will bookmark this to keep tabs on it

Haha Mǔse, we tell ourselves we've got it under control, and then Friday night happens... Lately I've been punishing myself for extended gaming nights by staying up the rest of the night drawing. That'll teach me!

The first one is referenced Sandra Bullock, so of course it looks nothing like her. The second is a self-portrait.

Will dump more old art soon, I have things to do later today and I need sleep.

Thanks, Chison! I'm enjoying your sb, too. Quick sketches are the bomb!

Aaaargh, so much reading to do. Just got my books today, and since they shipped kind of late I have about ten chapters to get through, and then some essays. My sleep schedule is shot, I need to invest in an alarm clock.

Just a few pieces today. I got frustrated with the mouth on the booby girl study, so I just scribbled something in as a joke, and it was closer than ten minutes of previous effort. Ha! I knew I was better at being awesome than being serious.

From now on I'll be doing regular studies of naked people from photo reference (mostly women in more or less compromising positions, go figure), and trying to get my accuracy on the mark, as good pen control has eluded me for years. I feel myself improving with each study I do, and it's always a treat to take a blind shot at a line and have it work the first time

I sure wish I had time to set concrete goals like this crazy gentleman here, but for now the priority is scoring some good grades. I'll post again soon enough

Small update. I'll keep the excuses short and just say recovering from a year-long hospital stay is harder than I thought! What a blur the months have become; things have been passing by pretty quick left and right. But I'm on top of it!

Here are three I did today from picture reference. The left leg on the second one was actually from a few weeks ago when I felt more stressed out. I see a definite change there; the lines are tighter and everything's a bit too wide. These are maybe thirty minutes each, because I kept noticing things everywhere and couldn't leave well enough alone, though I have a feeling that's good I'll run on by the tutorial threads before next update and post some of my results. Til then!

You should do more life studies, I hear that it is the quickest way to improvement. Also don't draw on your pc only. Try different media, experiment!

Erd: Thanks for stopping by! I've been avoiding any traditional media because I don't have a scanner, but I guess that's dumb

    DarkSoul: I'm here to please!

Been playing way too much Minecraft. Transferring smallish pixel art into a large monument inside a persistent 3D online world is fun and rewarding. It's also great to contribute to a server's overall image by doing great work there. Too bad most of my peers are young teens, haha!

Here's an update just to keep the book alive! Hands are evil. Happy Holidays from Panama City Beach!

EDIT: I just noticed how much I'm avoiding feet. Bah, when I get back home (Doh! Forgot my tablet!) I'll post a lot of lower leg and foot studies, just cause.

The work isn't bad, you just need more of it.

Try to think of building a head less as an exercise in putting features on a sphere... this isn't like Mr. Potatohead

Think of it more as finding the planes where things sit. It's hard to see the head as a series of shapes and planes; Bridgman's pretty good at breaking the head down.

Check out the Bridgman on that as well as Asaro's planal head (if you can find a cast of it to practice with).

Fried my brain copying colors for about an hour and a half while on a caffeine rush. This would be a fun routine. Maybe throw in some other material to work on and call it a session

This one is a revisit of the first sketch in #2. I've got a reference image of a statue and I'm bending it to the quirky expression. It's interesting and fun, if not terribly accurate. She's bug-eyed and that presents a challenge. I'll finish it soon!

Good stuff, man, keep posting! I'd love to see you do more studies, you'd benefit a lot. Like everyone said, gotta focus that creative laser of yours. Seems all over the place at the moment.

Keep going, you have tons of potential!

I don't think it's so bad that you're all over the place; I like the crazed explosion from your imagination!

Anatomy studies can always help, though! Even if you're mostly interested in really highly stylized figures, a good grasp of anatomy will help you play around with proportions even more.

Thanks guys! Gonna bust out anatomy studies ASAP! Maybe I'll give some special focus to hands, since they've been killing me lately.

Finished the repaint. Not exactly the colors of the reference, but a great exercise. I think I should remove the lines and have it as plain values, but I also want to move on. In another study then!

    I live!

Hand studies in my free time. Threw on some Twisted Metal to put a general time limit on each one. If I didn't finish, I went on to the next track and wrapped up as fast as possible. More tomorrow.
