    Vablo
    - Thank you!

lolbbq - thanks lolbbq (name fits perfectly in ma mouth .. lol-bee-bee-que haha!) yea man, when studying I've mainly focused on certain areas of te body and not so much the figure. More to come

Hey peeps, thank you kindly.. I need to setup up a schedule or something, cause I am loosing it haha.. too much slack atleast I've almost been drawing daily these days which is good. It's not one of these "hey I can't do art for a month" periods which is good.. here's a quick sketch I did, CGHub has a "disney re-design" thingy going on. It's merlin from the Sword in the stone, badass old man.. when sketching this I really felt how all those gesture studies are paying off. Well well.. off to do some more pages!

There's also a pretty cool ArtOrder challenge going on for 3 weeks - http://theartorder.com/?p=627

and.. Keep a lookout for Dominance War V - starting up february 28th! - http://www.dominancewar.com/2010/index.html

Tjusig fiskpojke!

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback (in swedish for those who wonder ) they all agree'd on the sketch being a bit hard to read so I'm adding a wip for viewing pleasure.. still trying to figure out how to have the same "loose and flowing feeling" my linework has.. paint kinda ruins it for me, think it has to do with sillhouette and edges, where the movement is I need softer edges, nothing I have started working on yet.

Quick explanation of the steps so far:
    1. gesture with linework sketch worked out over it, finding the characters story. Why is he standing like this? what is he attempting to do? etc.

    2. Laying down colours underneath linework, having lines on multiply and colours on a solid 'normal' layer

    3. to use the term "lucky accidents", fooling around with overlay and hardlight layer options, adding hues and value loosely, kinda just letting the lines lay them selves.. This chaos will be worked into the piece at later steps.

The plan is to start laying down shapes over this mass of colour, working out edges and values as I go eventually reaching a nicely rendered piece.

Arh there's so much I want to study and understand yet I spend 90% of my day 'wasting time' .. one of my favourite quotes is "A passionate hour is never a wasted one" however, these hours I've been spending gaming or surfing the internet haven't been passionate.. they have been obsessive.. like an addiction.. "Gotta have that smoke or else I'm going crazy" kinda feeling.. oh well, I have to cut me some slack, no use in entering a self-destructive mode punishing myself for whats already happened..

friends, first of all you need self-love. Erase those negative thoughts and feelings.. allow yourself to be negative and have these thoughts but understand that they aren't you. As much as you want to view the world in a "correct" way you first have to understand that the parts of yourself that you consider bad, negative or shameful are just as much a part of you as the other one's. Embrace these parts of yourself.. if you have something within you that you're ashamed of or reluctant to admit even to yourself, don't hide it away.. approach it, get to know it and replace it with something better. Even the hideous beast can turn out to be something wonderful once you get to know it.

You can't wish away or remove a part of you, no matter how hard you try.. we're taught that this is what we should do, that these negative aspects are not wanted and should be removed.. which is false. We become sick when we try. We loose track, we hit walls, we get lost..

I'm not talking about some new-age magical rainbow thinking.. I'm talking about respect for the unique being that is you and the needs this being has. Self-love is the key to understanding you and the world around you. Embrace your feelings, throw away the words 'good' and 'bad' when it's about yourself and your emotions and begin shedding your fears and everything that's holding you back. You are free in that sense that you have the power to take control of who you are and your way of thinking which in turn gives you power over the world as you observe it. Therein lies your strength and responsibility. Remember your freedom.

and.. listen to this song the lyrics are insanely good! This guy really does what he loves.. I wish to have the courage to do the same. Best wishes, friends. Wanna discuss something or talk? hit me up with a message in here or a pm

I think the problem is that you make it so chaotic that you loose track on the initial idea. Either make a pretty strong line drawing so you don't get lost in the process. Or make a thumbnail that you have beside you as a guide.

Right now the line drawing is very flowy but it doesn't describe much. work the sketch as good as you can so that you feel confident with taking it to the next phase. And if you feel uncomfortable to take it to colors, then work on the values first. Take it step by step and spend the time the step needs.

The sketch/drawing is the most important part of a painting so it's very important that it gets done correctly. A house with bad ground to stand on will fall apart, either during the process of building it, or after it's done.

Hey guys, sorry for being away, replies later.. this weekend I lost something I have never lost before, a friend. I will be away from here for a while as his death is heavy for me.. I wished for the power to break free from procrastination but I never thought a loved one's death would be the wake-up call. Life suddenly got a whole new meaning for me.. all my whine about wasting time suddenly seems so fucking pointless.
My life is changing.. I need some time. I wish you all the best.

    Love

    Dv

you know its never easy dealing with something like this, and at the moment i doubt anything i say will be able to shake you from the pain your feeling. but i just wanted to share something with you that kept me going when my dad died a year ago. bobby chiu replied to an email of mine, and he told me its the people who experience the worst in life, that are meant for greatness. all i can say is this, make this person proud of you by reaching your highest level you can. and there never gone, because there always still in your heart. when you do decide to return to your art, i have no doubt youll come back with a new force. my thoughts and prayers go out to you man.
