    Walking stick

I want to make a fairly ornate walking stick as a theatrical prop. It needs to be really hard-wearing and durable.

I've been thinking of using a Rowan branch (it's been drying for over a year) and building up texture with string and fibreglass, then applying enamel paint.

Am I storing up problems for myself with this idea? Does anybody have another suggestion?

I'm a noob at this kind of thing....

I'd go with something like AVES ApoxieSculpt. It has a bit of a learning curve if you've never used it before, but it would be far less messy and not anywhere near as stinky/troublesome as fiberglass.

And it's darn near indestructible when fully cured.

Aves would probably do the trick-- I'd recommend a metal core though. To be honest I'm not sure what I'd use, if weight wasn't an issue I'd wire wrap some rebar and do that. Hope that helps

i have a few wooden walking sticks that have a natural twist in them they are 5 year old or older and are untreated with any chemicals or sealants so you could do what you wanted with them.

Another suggestion is to tear some sheets and dip pieces in glue (Elmers work pretty good), and then wrap the pieces around the stick. You can put wads of paper or fabric underneath to give shape. When dry, it's pretty durable and cheaper alternative than fiberglass or apoxie.
