    Cow Dr.Blindsy - Sketchbook. 09.12.2009

Hello and welcome to my teeny tiny corner of the internets!

My name is Dominique Bastarache (or Blindsy if you prefer). I'm a 20-something artist from Canada
I like long walks on the beach and I'm not afraid to "go there"
Please feel free to comment and critique as you see fit. I have a tough hide, so you can be jerkish if you want, but who really wants to? *lol*

Anyway, feel free to browse and tell me what you think!

    Cheers!
    Dr. Blindsy

    One more.

I don't know if this violates the TOS. I looked, but I really couldn't find anything. This is from my RMD account (RateMyDrawings).
If this DOES violate some Term Of Service, just delete it or something. This was done using the "line-tool" just straight lines, even for the colouring.

YAY! My first comment haha *cue balloons*

Yeah. I NEED to do that. I use Col-erases just to kind of add a splash of colour but I need to get my head out of my ass and use photoshop more.

    Thank you very much!

Whoah, you definately don't suck. I love the character art, wish my sketches turned out looking nearly as finished and smooth as yours.

Thanks for that haha... I was very nervous about posting here for the longest time. So far, the reception has been very warm. I'm not so terrified anymore hehe

Your sketchbook made my day! And so does your avatar!

Thank you thank you thank you for the kind post. I assure you, given the reception I've gotten so far, I'll be SURE to keep posting. I prefer this place LEAPS and bounds over dA for a multitude of reasons.

    Thanks again!

I really like your cartoony style (it's far more interesting than just still-lifes(ves*?) and whatnot). I think it's also really good with how you make lighter, sketchy lines and then go in and make darker, more solid lines. Good way to keep your proportions and anatomy and so on in check. HOWEVER, I do think some life drawing could do you some good, just to broaden your horizons. Even if you can't see any obvious similarities between your stylistic drawing and your realistic, you'll eventually start to notice a general improvement in both areas. Good work.

Hey Dr.Blindsy I know exactly what you mean about feeling nervous I certainly was and you are far advanced compared to me. Only crit I have is I'm not sure if all your drawings are from imagination or studies/copies. Helps to know IMO. I like them anyway and thanks so much for popping by my SB.

I like your style. It would look good animated. The one of the guy with the skull shirt and gun looks cool.

I was off all weekend so I didn't get a chance to climb on here and respond to stuff.

Thank you very much for your input. I strive to do more realism (since that's what I started with haha) but I've seemed to have fallen out of the habit. I have got to start doing more in-depth realism studies.

Thank you again. Cheers for popping by!

Most of the "studies" (I.E the Pinky And the Brain stuff) are from "observation" (according to the picture uploading thingie). I did use a reference for those ones, but most of that stuff is from imagination with no reference.

Haha, no problemo on the stopping by, your work is very good :3. It was my pleasure, and I hope to see more stuff from ya in the future.

Thank you so much. That's a character of my boyfriend, more of his "evil-alter-ego" kind of deal haha. I can't take credit for the design, despite what he might say.

Thanks for stoppin' by mah SB :3

Even more impressed that most of your work is from imagination as to me that seems the most difficult of all. I've got a lot of drawing to do before I get to that stage. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.

As I said, its my pleasure I enjoy encouraging other people to take up the pencil ... I think the more artists we have out there the better.

And thanks to the magic of Gmail, we have more updates

The Greg Grunberg sketch was done while watching Heroes. I didn't use a specific scene for reference, and it was only done in about 20 minutes... maybe half an hour... or at least by the end of the episode haha. I fooled around with the dark levels in Photoshop and got kind of a pen/inky feel to it.

    I hope you enjoy :3

    Thumbs up

Very cool cartoony stuff! Are you making up your own characters? They definitely have personalities (the guy with black hair & beard especially).

I think gesture drawings would help add some life and pep to the cartoony stuff you have, as well as give them more fluid lines. Keep up the good work!

wow I really like your style! I like the feel of your line, it has a nice flow and looks really natural. I like the fact that you try a lot of things, different angles, type of faces and expressions. And i'm already starting to get attached to your characters!

Just a question like that, are you in animation?

anyway your SB convince me to post my own SB soon, well maybe tomorow... XD

JoshMurr: Thanks! And its never a problem. I've become something of an addict around here haha.

Demon Lizardman: Haha, thank you. It was originally meant to be a concept design for the werewolf character that got redesigned into the sleaker girl with glasses up there. Dunno why I changed the idea.

ReggieFan: Thank you so much! I look forward to sharing more of my art as soon as possible.
