Man I feel like I should do more anatomy studies when I look at your sb ... ^^; Good work sage! I have a hint for you regarding hatching. Use it to describe the form of the object. That means if you are hatching an arm it might help to make curved lines that follow the shape of the muscles underneath! I hope you get what I mean, it's kinda hard to explain stuff in a foreign language >.<
Wow! .... To see so many dynamic maps, and anatomical study. Really made me very surprised. Really admire you ... So please, be maintained
Nice, nice, and you finally said bridgman
And not sleeping isn't healthy sage heh =p but yeah, that's out little student problem, witch we do it to ourselves sometimes, by not starting sooner xD
Good luck on your exam tomorrow!!!!!
And even if you're no fan of hogarth, i highly recommend you combining it with bridgman. Many say it, and they have a reason for that.
After trying it out ( by accident) myself, i came to realise how nice i can polish up my lines.
And yes, yes, i agree, more understanding how to combine them studies are really nice! Especially after doing quite a bit of them on their own. It is nice to get the angle, proportion and everything right from the start
GOOD LUCK with the exams once more.
Your life drawings are looking great. I think you should try some figures from imagination just so you can see how much your studies are sinking in.
The Plan: 1000 pages of studies. 344 down, 656 to go.
Goal: Massive improvement by page 1000.

Kristo Novo: You flatter me. I think your stuff is well beyond mine. Thanks.
Creusa: Cool!
jatherip: What if my head's empty as a bag of air? Ever think about that? Thanks Rip!
erdbeerfeldheld: I get exactly what you mean. And i do try to do that sometimes--especially when rendering. When just knocking in flat values I tend to move all in one direction for a single value, and then blend with my fingers.
Your advice is very good though, I do need to improve that. Thank you.
huhucg: Hehe... I love your English. Dynamic maps; I have to remember that. Thank you!
Blacky! Thanks babe... think I did fine on the exam. Just one more exam left in all of the Uni (the final!) woo hoo!!!
Eric: You're absolutely right. In fact, that's what I'll do for tomorrow's practice. Cheers!

This set: 1 life drawing
4 pages of Bridgman
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The art-hating Satan (yeah... that one) was in my head today, telling me to quit. The life drawing session didn't go terribly great last night, and today it was just telling me to forget the Bridgman stuff, as it was not helping much.
But after thinking about it, I just went in and started working... and stuff went a bit better. In fact, I adjusted my grip slightly, which made my lines a bit more comfortable... but I tried to visualize my lines before laying them down, toward the end. And that made a heckuva difference. I could almost always lay them in in one shot. (That's what all the straight lines/boxes, etc is on the next to last page). I looked at a spot, and nailed it almost every time. The arm on the third to the last page was done that way (that page was actually almost all drawn last week, though).
I think it's just a matter of trying to internalize these things. I think studying the condyles of the humerus and the elbow tonight was helpful. I not only copied the Bridgman stuff, but modified it slightly here and there to demonstrate my understanding. That, coupled with the more direct lines, felt like progress. Let's see where it goes.
I'm a bit lost again w/r/t life drawing... don't know why it suddenly clicked the week of Juan Carlos and went away. I think I will concentrate on getting the torso first from now on. That's what was different about the Juan Carlos pose. I could almost not see his head, so I started with the shoulder mass and rib cage. I should always start with the large masses, IMO. Maybe a little gesture here and there wouldn't hurt the long pose either.

Been from page 1 to end in here and the improvement is vast! You are a studying machine and i admire your tenacity i have no doubt that it will pay off for you in the end keep posting and i am going to keep watching. I agree with Jatherip up there too your Bridgemans are becoming really nice

Well i personally like to start with the head because..well...you measure with it.
but starting with what is good for you works best
don't listen to that little voice that wants to make you stop! powned it!!!!![]()

and try redrawing some of the first figures you ever drew to see the improvement if you want a little motivation boost..or a figure from a couple of weeks ago..just redraw
good luck sage onwards!!
keep going, keep going!
VERY INSPIRESOME DUDE
i think you deserve one of these for a job well done![]()

Hey, friends, my English is not good, there is also wrong to say sorry. Today, I have just updated the theme of the next I have time to give suggestions .... Hei hei.
Hey sage, nice job on the figure drawing! I think you could push the values more though. Keep at it =)
Your bones and muscles are looking more solid with bridgemen.

latigid: Thanks!

Rip: Haha... never thought I'd see the dayWell, good luck there Mein Kommandant!
Blacky: Measuring with the head is a good idea... but you don't necessarily have to start with the head. In fact, Mentler says not to because the model's head will move most of all. You're using the model as reference, not as something to copy. That's where all the cool anatomy and perspective studies come in. We're supposed to take cues from the model and then construct it
At least that's what I've learned from Mr's Vilppu, Barnstone, and now Mentler
I'm comin to check your thread, Cristina. There better be awesome in there![]()

Myck: Oh, an asspat? Hah. B-man's way ahead of you on those. Seems those Scandanavian men really like to touch my ass ... lol.
huhucg: Haha... I hope you know I like you and thank you for your words
erdbeerfeldheld: Values are definitely a weak spot, but they're off the map at this point. Proportion first. If I can start really getting proportion, I'll move on to values like a madman! Thanks for the crit!
Pigeonkill: Thanks, Pidg. I'll have to check that out.
Krato: Haha. I'm trying to reach 600 before getting to Barnstone for studies. Then it should jump significantly (I'll be drawing all day, every day). Thanks dude.

This set: 1 life drawing
1 page of thumbnails
2 pages from mind
4 pages of Bridgman
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm getting lazy with the scanning already. Life drawing(s) starting with thumbnail this time. I like the idea. I drew about 8 thumbnail versions before setting in to the full drawing, as suggested by Mentler. I do think it helped quite a bit. The final life drawing is measured fairly well (I'm kind of happy with that part of it).
Problem was... we use just natural light in that session... throw open a couple of baffles and let light in through the windows. Started out ok, but then started to snow halfway through the session and it got DARK. Could barely see the paper when I was rendering.
I think the head and other major volumes are pretty close (measuring wise) and the anatomy isn't horribly bad.
Some scattered Bridgmans and assorted mind stuff for the rest.
My biggest problem is sitting down and doing more, dammit. I get sidetracked.
Another thing: Don't draw the Bridgman studies by drawing the contours! Draw this stuff the same way you draw life drawings; by conceptualizing the major volumes first. Then move on to the minor stuff; then smooth the lines and shade.
This is a reminder to me. I think the reason I put off doing more of these is that I'm worried about getting them measured perfectly. That's not as important as conceptualizing the masses and getting the idea perfectly, IMO.
I tried (especially on the last two pages) to do those this way. Meh. More work needed, all the time.

Hey, nice update! Did you attend the workshop this weekend? Vandruff had some great stuff to say, good questions asked, overall awesome. Lots and lots of stuff about Bridgman. One of his advice that i think both you and me should work on is mastery of the basic forms, the stuff from the mind looks a tad funky and i think you could definately benefit from it. That kind of stuff is often neglected but i think most would agree that it's very important.
Great lifedrawing man! All the studies look awesome, keep these up now bro!
matt
I know what you mean about scanning, it can be a pain sometimes.
The Bridgman studies are looking good.
That is a good reminder
But luckily enough, i finally started applying that block in big parts first, get those proportions down, and then , and only then start detailing.
About the scanning bit, i can't complain because i'm used to scanning in 25-30 A4 pages at once sometimes, so yeah..a few sketch pages is nothing!
Yor studies are looking great, and considering they're starting to be from memory, but as good as the one you referenced before is really something!!
LOOK HOW MUCH YOU ARE GROWING SAGE!!![]()
hey you JACKASS!!!
have you ever considered that i could actually BE a Nancy? and wear lipstick?
AN IS THAT A FUCKING PROBLEM TO YOU`?just kidding, i have a cold and i need my scarf^^
have you ever done figure studies from other artists, too? search mentler, charles Hu, kevin chen...awesome people and mor ways to construct stuff

nice rendering. one thing though, adding in the highlights in with an eraser creates a sort of distracting texture. I think it might be worth while to apend more time on the pre-drawing just to make it a little cleaner and give your shadow grouping a stronger sense of unity
Dude!!!!
You are gonna be one of those annoying guys that in one year become some kind of celebrity here, ain't you? Like that Daniel dude...
Damn!!
Your drawings are already becoming much much better.
I can see improvement in pretty much everything, proportion, structure, even your lines are more fluid and confident and your drawings cleaner.
Yeah bro... just keep doing, its being very interesting to watch.
Way to go!
looking good, P! keep working hard, you´re going places.![]()
keep cranking those studies. working on bridgman right now myself. it's up to you buddy! only you can make it happen...out last!!!
