Not bad dude. Imagination drawing is hard. Might I recommend you look at Loomis' "Figure drawing for all it's worth" book? Really quite something, it is.

I think some studies from there, in addition to Posemaniacs will really help you draw the figure better.

Possibly practise some [posemaniac] dynamic pose drawing too if you like (doesn't have to be 30 secs, you can just try the regular pictures and go for a couple of minutes if you find it a bit too short)

I stronlgy suggest leaving the digitals as it comes to quick sketches and anatomy stdies as for now. Grab a pencil or charcoal, you have to be more confident when drawing/painting in traditional media. And it might help you, i think.

scorpion007: Thanks, I'm going to try and get that book, i'll take all of what you said on board, cheers

Icecold: Okay, yer I'll do some more pencil work, never really sketched much of anthing before so I guess that's why I tend to stick to digital (which I'm still a total noob at). I'm sure it is in my best interest though, thanks

Just a WiP,instead of refining the form with values, I decided to try with lines, not sure which technique I find easier. This was just an exercise to help me with observational skills and speed, probebly not a piece I'll end up finishing but fun none the less

Might do a pencil study tomorrow, the last time I used a grey lead (apart from this SB) was like in grade 5 art, so don't be too hard on me

I agree with the suggestion to do more traditional media, as it can give you confidence much quicker. Plus, it's all too easy to delete the digis you don't like. It's harder to crumple up a paper and throw it out.

But don't ever throw things out, because it will be comforting to look back on the stuff you think is crap and see how far you've come.

Nice skin rendering in your latest digi, though. I say that despite suggesting you move to paper

p sage: Thanks, I'll do more sketching with pencils from here on in

Kawauchi: If you have anymore suggestions I would love to hear them , ideally I would love to be a violinist and an artist, the sad reality is, although I have a great passion for both I only discovered this after I had finished high school, so I've been playing violin for 5 months and I guess drawing and painting for just under 5 I'd say. So now at the age of 19 I'm a complete noob at both.... I love being the underdog anyway (sorry for the life story)

Well seeing as I'm completely new to pencil sketching (apart from one other entry in my SB) I decided to do a few figures, which didn't turn out too bad I guess, thanks again to everyone who has given me advice thus far and also to those of you who have viewed my SB, means a lot

Edit: New goal inspired by the Pervy Sage himself 10,000 figures by the time this SB turns a year old

    THE CHALLENGE BEGINS

I agree with icecold about veering to traditional - not just coz of stroke confidence, but i think a basis in traditional media makes digital that much easier to get the hang on. besides every time you experiment with a new medium, you learn a new approach to apply to your normal mediums.

your anatomy sketches are looking nice, you seem to be able to get the shapes of things pretty accurately - like with the froggy on the other page especially. and the more you do of anatomy, the better you get. you might want to try different methods of doingthem though - as well as construction lines, blocking in the values, the silhouettes, the muscles themselves, etc. etc.

You're working on a lot of different things. Like everyone before I appreciate the hardwork. I would say chill out and work on one problem before hopping to another. For instance drawing a human or head straight on before diverting to more dynamic things.

I like that you're doing studies in a lot of different things as liquidjack said. I normally am really lazy about that and stick to drawing things from imagination. Your studies are making me want to try other things too. ^_^ Your posemaniac ones are strong too--they look a lot like the human body compared to mine. Keep up the good work!

Cool. Haha! Glad to have inspired you Next we're going to learn "Rasengan"

Nice mannekins. Yeah, just post away. Before you know it, you'll reach your goal.

Then you can look back at your old stuff and feel like you've come a long way... because you will have.

d-funct: Thanks, yer I see what you mean I'll try focus on anatomy more for a little while, what exactly are costruction lines?

liquidjack: Thanks for the advice, I guess I need to channel my energy a little more.

Growling: Thanks, if I was as good as you I would probebly just do things from imagination too but I'm not, haha thanks again

p sage: Good to see you again sensai, I'm not sure if I'm ready for Rasengan, maybe when I reach 1000 figures I will be thanks for dropping by

Just some figures for today, I really need to get faster at doing them so I can do more per day.

Kawauchi: Kind of kicking myself now, thats a lot of figures, posemaniacs 30 second sketches will make up the majority probebly Thanks oh and it's an honor to have you stalk me

p sage: Thanks, yer I'll get onto posemaniacs and post 50 or so 30 second figures for tomorrow, didn't feel like doing them today

miycko: Thanks so much, I will do another this week or something perhaps in a more dynamic pose this time

Today I thought I would try and work on my observational skills, so I found an image of a soul calibur 4 character and now I'm trying to make my copy to look like the original (early stages yet)

50 posemaniacs sketches (30 seconds each) Some of those dynamic poses came out pretty bad, there a bit harder to do in 30 seconds...

you should know that you're drawing my favourite soul calibur character and then there's Taki ofcourse her right leg looks a bit short (probably cause it'd bent towards us, i'm assuming it's slightly in the air). i know it's still very WIP, maybe a bit of darkness on the inside & outside of the leg to better illustrate where it is. i need to try those 30 second poses

p sage: Thanks , I gave faces a shot today a welcomed change

A few figures from imagination, posemaniacs is helping a great deal I think, but it gets boring after a while so I skipped posemaniacs for today

Edit: The girl has button eyes as suggested by my two sisters who had just finished watching Coraline, I wasn't quite sure of the significance but sure enough there was a character with button eyes,

Icecold made a very good point there, do traditional studies first, before you make the jump to digital. Its far easier for you to get stuff into your head with trad.

    Nice face on this one.

Making shapes look 3D is tough... her dress looks flat... you'll just have to try to visualize it as a modified cone in perspective to make it look better.
