Oy, I was away for the weekend dwardo, sorry to just be responding... You guys still want another person? (you can pm in response to this, I don't want to clutter up the sketchbook space)
I have some time this evening and night, so I will do some reference-hunting, mood-board setting etc. Tomorrow I'm again back to my usual day-style which means tons of free time opposite my computerits just today that was deadly busy.
Hi everyone! I need some time until I will realize who is who, but I can start drawing without this knowledge so worry not my dear friends!
my email: [email protected]
Hello everyone!
Dwardo-here are some character/mood images I stole from around the net. I dont know if they resonate with anyone-but I thought I would throw my part in! Thanks for making the schedule!
Sepu-hope you had a good time in London Town! Welcome! I think we should all get out character/mood boards up and then discuss.
[CENTER]Ken's Sketchbook
Hi Lindsayhallo!
Awesome Awesome Kenneth. I'll drop these sketches in and try working using your moods and characters. I saw a few of those same pictures, but for some reason, it didn't tickle me fancy. In this big group, however, it's a whole different feel.
Lynda says Hi from another dimension.

Yo, dwardo-I just saw your mood pics-AWESOME. We are on the same wavelength. I am into the green/ blue un-saturation. More mood. If you google images Waterhouse paintings you will see a mood I really like.
Another thing we should figure out is some kind of story. We are so all over the board we need to tie down to some basic story concepts.
[CENTER]Ken's Sketchbook
I would never have found Waterhouse if you hadn't mentioned it. A lot of fabrics and flow. That's 5 weeks of rendering time if I were to get with it. Bahahaha. [I'll update this post with something useful laters.].
waterhouse just has a nice cold pallet with a few strong colors-especially red. We dont need lots of cloths-but the pallet is something I am into.
Also-for everyone else on the story section this is what we roughly have thus far.
who-Gods? magicians? Mortals?
where- distant universe, everything is made up
when- in an age where science and fantasy mix! How exciting!
why- maybe a disease, war or some other intense time of trial.
Something to give our characters tasks.
lets hear the 4 W's of the story from everyone.
[CENTER]Ken's Sketchbook
I was some time ago deep into shadowrun (google it!) where story of our world getting mixed with fantasy begins with: "one day charter flight from china to japan saw dragon flying alongside"
who - mortals dealing with gods
where/why - border mountains between fighting countries - this would bring at least two main species(elf/dwarf kind of species I mean) together
when - we are looking for mythology inspiration? then logically I would go for roman/greek/egyptian/sumerian/etc empire kind of setting
Sweet guys ... now I see more directions.
Shadowrun
who-Hybrids of God/Magicians/Humans/Peanuts
where- distant universe, everything is made up [check]
when- Kali-Yuga
why- It's the switching of emotions. A new way of thinking.
The world is too ravaged to keep on going like this, and the mind is questioned once more.
It's always a battle of good and evil, and it starts from within oneself.
edit:
I love the W's Kenneth and Sarah.
Perhaps, we should aim for like 60 characters or something, tied in by parallel Universes![]()

Gotta agree that I love Waterhouse palettes. I'm not sure what can be googled, but if there is any question about any of that, i have a book of his work that I could scan in a pinch.
I await an update from dwardo on what y'all have discussed so far, and am reading through the thread here in the meantime and attempted to rack my brains as well. ttys
Edit:
Who: Liking the mortals and maybe demi-gods dealing with Gods. [and eating peanuts]
Where: shyah. a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.
When: but not actually a long time ago, I'm digging the sci-fantasy. Just maybe with a Greekish vibe?
Why: the gods are at war, or maybe building up to war (between each other), and they are engaging in major sabotage towards each other's followers/realms. This could include all sorts of catastrophes, plagues, natural disasters, mortals in dispute and upheaval, etc. Peanut uprisings.
EDIT II, the sequel:
Okay, and just to get a sense of what everyone is imagining, a question... Are we looking at such things as Greek mythological creatures in a sci-fi setting? The normal fantasy genre type creatures in a more.. ancient Greece feeling world/clothing/weapons? A mix of maybe some Greek creatures and the more typical fantasy creatures listed in the CHOW descrip... in maybe a more sci-fi-ey world with Greek or Roman influences?... Just. trying to jumble some things around in mah head.

Man you guys are fast!
who: I like the hybrids of God/Demon type creatures/Can Robots be involved in some way?
where: distant universe is good
when: Futuristic but with ancient oriental elements/influence maybe even greek
why: possession of a powerful element/artifact that gives the owner limitless power (very LOTR).... or maybe disagreement on who would win in a fist fight between optimus prime and megatron?
Will reference hunt during the day and squeeze some quick sketches.
I reckon anything that's cool Lindsay.
Sarah had Egyptian mythology in the mix also, so I'll start looking at the feels for that.
[I'm a noob when it comes to Fantasy, but would love to do any type of hybrid creatures]. Your faun idea had me thinking of other animal/humans combos.
It's easier to follow what's already set I guess, we'll just have to tweak it a bit, like, moving it into the future, or even just a century forward/backward.
Edit:
Hi George!
Robots Robots? Sci-Fi Fantasy ??? I'm not sure though, will have to look into it further.
You aim too high! 60 is too much! Unless they are all going to be peanuts! Besides we want quality not quantity-Both preferably.
Colors?
4 W's thus far....
Who- It seems like we are all liking the demigod stuff. Demi means half God half mortal so everyone knows. Now if we could focus on a couple possible "races" either generic or more out of box. Thats the next step.
Where- I Like Sepu's idea of the mountains in between waring nations, in a galaxy we have yet to name or really describe. (prolly dont really need to) Can we work out what kind of mountains these are??
When- I would imagine a late middle ages era- where the science of the renaissance was not quite full swing and there was still lots of mysticism about everything. Like the Greeks also. They had their science and they had fantasy too. Allows us some creative leeway
Why: So we want this linked to the Gods (as that adds fantasy) but the focus would be easier on the demigods as we can include mortals and actual social things into the drama. We seem to be into the war idea. Gods were always blamed for making the Greek wars so we have a nice tie in there. If the characters are inbetween the demigods and the mortals then we can add the sci-fi (gadgets of the mortals) and the fantasy too. Plus war is always exciting! Does this sound good?
Sounds- The rough blob like idea thats in my head right now would be something like Greekish demi Gods (very active and prominent in mortal life) Almost too good to be real heroes, mixed with a more clumsy race of mortals. Kind of like men in middle earth. I know they wanted us to break stereo types, but I dont want to go too over the top. I think two races of "men" like characteristics would be the easiest to deal with. As far as clothing and era goes- I like the empire idea that sepu had. distinguishable armor patterns and empire like society. I dont really know though...
-IDEA- I just thought I would throw this out there: If we can decide on say, two races. Then we break up into two teams. Within those teams we have someone designing the demigod and their good and evil, and another designing the mortals with their good and evil. We could then switch teams and edit each others designs to have a bit of cohesion in style. I dont know if that sounds good to the team or not. Just thought I would ask!

*brain just exploded ... still reading up on Mythos and cool creatures, but yea
that reads about right Kenneth.
wiki list of demi-gods
3 members working on the demis ... 2 for the humans ??? It could work.
Last edited by vardoburrito; August 3rd, 2009 at 08:06 PM.
Dwardo- Yeah I like your idea. What is more important? I think I agree that 3 should be on the demis and 2 on mortals. Mortals will have the cool sci fi gadget type things. Maybe in the context that the Gods have given them or that they are relics. Going with vshens idea. eh? eh? That might be our only way to realistically incorporate something robotic or sci fi.
the demigods could have gadgets too, But generally they are just cool and powerful. More magical.
[CENTER]Ken's Sketchbook
I'll need to second run throug the last few posts, but it looks like we're about to start.
Thanks guys for making it clearer and clearer.
Hi Sarah!
I'mma crash for a bit. ttyouslaters.
you guys are sure about sci-fi allowed? there was some questions about it and answer was NO in main topic thread, wasn't it?
If that's the case sepu.... are we treading too much into sci-fi if we go for a futuristic theme? is it more safer to go into an ancient, medieval theme to make sure we are on the fantasy area?
Okay, it looks like sci-fi is out.
So, we will be back to the brass tacks of armor concepts and clothing.
Time to do more reference gathering! Go go GO!
EDIT:
I did a little research and it helped out quite a bit. High fantasy is a pretty particular thing. We are on the right track already but everyone should make a quick overview on what high fantasy consists of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fantasy
I am going to the gym!

Nice Sepu!
I ended up just wasting lots of time today. Here is a little sketch.
[CENTER]Ken's Sketchbook
oooo, yes yes Sarah and Kenneth. Awesome Awesome. Little ideas started to run around.
They're tickling each other, laughing n crying. Like a summer rain. ???
edit:
I'm ready to go and explore more on post #44. Keep on playing, keep on shuffling things around.
Who - demigods and humans n neutrals. demigods of greece vs demis of egypt?
Are we doing titan demis vs titan humans?
I'd like it to be titan demis vs common humans. [No Hollywood ending; This game you'll never beat].
Where - Mountains , bridges, paths. A transitional location. Portal to an Oasis. A dance floor. A battle floor.
When - Yes to that one in post #44.
Why - Conflicts are always nice. Story as to what they're fighting for can always mirror how it is now. Justifications for survival over another. Any reactions can work.
A cool looking battle scene? or reality of conflict depiction. [No happy faces].
oooo, Are we doing 8 characters or 10?
---Switching - I'm not too sure about that one. I'd like to fully flesh out
one or the other and make the other race pay. hahaha.
I was thinking we can switch every now and then, with little adjustments added;
but the majority of work will be done by the same members. Yes/No?
/back to the table.

I cannot get myself around myth style, I think ref hunting will set me right if only I will bring myself to do such terrible exhausting job like concentration
sniff cough cough sniff
Bahahah ...
Uhm, in terms of myth hunting... I'm just thinking battle scene around 1300-1500AD
Hybrids I still vote for. Just keep exploring for this remainder of the week. With whatever energy you have.
We'll widdle it down ready for play. K.

OKAY I had a brainflash that I needed to dump on you guys real quick.... Then I'll be gone for around 30-40 minutes and then on for most of the rest of the day/night
Somebody earlier said something about robots, which was an idea that scared me because... I'm not used to it. This is what CHOW is actually for is it not? Let's push our boundaries...
Why couldn't our good players be more organic, more Greek-myth like... .and the evil versions have veered sharply away from the organic, to the point where [as dwardo was talking about in earlier posts] they are losing their "humanity", their... whatever made them them... and if not fully robotic, at least very much meshed in extreme body modification of the cyber-sort.
Just something to think about, I will come back and read the stuff you guys have been posting in a little while, because I see that you have posted today XD
Oy, Liz don't get too excited about the robots.
No sci-fi was decided in the brief. They would've been sweet to do indeed, but we can always try some hybrid of some sort. Just get their background stories developed along with it. mwah mwah.
