I figured the den as the base of some city gang of outlaws. I don't know why I made it so cartoony though...

Revenbo I love it so far! I don't know how you guys crank out these fantastic ideas so quickly. I don't think it feels that 'Cartoony'. I like that you can see the decent parts of city, but also the seedy under-bridge.

I'm tempted to go Ali-Babba and the 40 thieves on this one, since EVERYone is gonna do the 'City rogues guild house'

I'll see if I can't dig up a translation of the original story! I remember reading it when I was a wee tiny thing. . . Or rather, an even tinier thing then I currently am. . .

OK BUT DON'T STEAL MY IDEA, GUIZ! :B

After brainstorming a while, I decided to do a Prohibition era(around 1930) basement hideout. Here's the basic layout, hope it makes sense.

revenebo: Awesome work so far! The only thing I'd suggest is checking the perspective of the bridge... Might just be me, but the right two cross beams look like they are pointing downward a bit.

timothee: Can't wait to see more!

Here's a bit I worked on so far... Trying to go for a dark and creepy city neighborhood feel with some rain in the works.

hey! This is my first idea for the topic.. I might end up changing the whole composition to make it more "thiefy"

revenbo - I really like this piece. Seeing so much of the underside of the bridge seems odd, but since this has a cartoon bent to it, it doesn't make much difference. Very cool.

Timothee - awesome start! Maybe see if you can inject more of the art deco/1930s feel into the scene, change up some of the rigid forms (tho it is so early, I am sure you have this in hand)

kono - I like the mood you are trying to set, but for me, this piece seems to be about the guy standing in the foreground. Maybe find a way to make the environment the star and make your piece feel less like an illustration.

    tonysaurus
    - I really like the color and some of the shapes/movement you have forming so far, but I get a little of the same thing I get with kono - the figure is the star of this, the environment is just a stone tunnel. Be sure you are showing the lair (den) where your thief hides out and that the environment is the focus, not the figure.

I wanted mine to be a band of French thieves hiding out in an abandoned townhouse's ruins... have to see where it goes

Oh.. very cool EOW title! I'll try to get something going this weekend if team Chow doesn't immediately pick up in speed.

JessiBean: It's great to see your environment! that'll be a very fun piece to color indeed

    Edit: thumbnails before bed.

I guess I'll do a sequence of the den then pick the right one, for now, the entrance (inside).

JessiBean, thank you very much for the comments! Yeah, I decided to leave that one for later and explore a different theme. This is probably a much more obvious interpretation of "den of thieves", but I have a thing for mountains...

Just a roughed out layout, got lots of work to do here...

Jessi, much kudos to you for trying this! No offence but it's rare that girls excel at environments! Looking really nice!

I actually wanted to try this, but I am not sure if I will find time. Gonna be away in London soon for a couple days... :>

    revenebo: sweet! Love the razorwire!
    timothee: nice lines! Solid perspective!
NIghtblue: cool thumbs! I like the first and last!
Formic Acid: nice! I think you could try to expand the space a wee bit more...
Mishkin: great warm-cool contrast! Very good sense of space!

sorry for not covering everyone! Please don't feel offended! I might try to write some more at a later time!

    Out side host

Hi, can somebody please explain what I am doing wrong when I outside host my image icon.

I am a total noob and I don't understand what I need to do.
I had uploaded the image icon to photobucket then copied and pasted the IMG Code into my post. When the thread became a poll I was listed as not having an outside hosted icon??? Is their another code I need to copy and paste into the post or do I do something else entirely different.

Everybody's den looks great so far

I am going to post my sketch soon and thanks for taking the time to help me.

its kinda sketchy, there are a few different image link buttons on photobucket one is for forums, when you are making the post click preview post and if the image shows than your good.

The image icon did show and thats why I couldn't figure out why my icon wasn't able to be included in the poll. I don't know which link to use or if I even use a link?

So I just checked and the resolution was 150 by 125.

I copied and pasted the IMG link code for the icon image and this image as well.

Do I set the IMG for bulletin boards and forums to the URL option or keep it where it is?

So many interesting ideas, looking forward to seeing them complete...

kono I suggest using hard edge brushes. You can smudge everything later if you want...

Thank you everybody for your comments. As pointed out there are many issues with perspective in my image, it's not enough cartoony to do without it.

I thought it would be good if I somewhat practiced drawing landscapes but I guess it's not really helpful when you're just messing around and not in the mood to be at least a little patient :/
Well, since I still invested some time I'm gonna upload it, but I'm definitely not joining the actual comp... I would have to start all over again any way D:

(0 concept and 0 reference, just some after-midnight boredom and once again my fear of clear, hard lines becomes appearent :> )

    @corrick:
    that's gorgeous!
Although I found it kind of confusing that there seems to be a sweeping movement in the picture... distracts the eye, I guess
