I've been lurking around the forums for quite some time, but haven't had the heart to post anything - now I'll just take the leap and start a sketchbook thread in hopes of greater motivation. Any kind of criticism is mostly welcome and will be received and applied in best intentions of self-betterment.

i love the way you shade man, i am trying to learn how to shade like that too, this got me inspired to study more and try something like this, great work you have here man, i hope to see more of your work soon, keep it up. =)

Hello Plumber, this is a great / promising start!. I'm in love with the first portrait.
If I had to say something with the barrel of a gun pushing down my nape and some kind of Al Capone shouting in my ear "...say something!!" I would say be careful with the right eye, from the top left in 4th and 7th portrait, and with the left eye in 6th, it seems that there has been a tiny problem with perspective and symmetry and you have been dealing with it. I have to say that I have the exactly same problem drawing eyes from 3/4 point of view. Anyway I think yours are better than mine!

Thanks for pointing out the eye-issue, I have to pay special attention to that one.


Here's some practice stuff, without reference (as are the ones above)... Trying to improve my figures and develop a good way to construct them (other people's methods don't seem to work out for me). Trying to get a feel for the bigger bulks before delving into more detailed anatomical studies.
Got inspired by Mr. Mentler's thread, and stole a few ideas from him.
