This WIP is a Spider wasp hatchling.

Here is another piece I will submit after a slight reworking
a S.T.O.R.K
Comments and criticisms are welcome, both here and on my blog.
Ok I have just gone through the entire catalogue of posts in an effort to ensure that my next pieces are actually unique.
The quality of work being produced on this site is simply extraordinary.
I am posting here a list of those artists and pieces who I think are most amazing and quite likely to win. for a couple of reasons, including:
not wanting to get banned for comment spamming superlative's thread wide.
and being able to find them again and view updates in an efficient manner without over clogging my already absurdly bloated favourites menu.
I will edit and add more as time goes on, so please don't feel bad if your not here. This is first pass.
So in NO particular order here are the ones to watch:
Nickillus
SoupandButter's phoenix chic (wish I had seen this before I did mine, ah well)
Nightblue's Stork
Alti's atmospheric pieces
Carnalizer's frankenstien
the awesome linework of Dromer
Curly's leaf bud man
MichaelNoel's scary clone woman
Randis's simply amazing work
Dougbot's not generic at all
Edarttogo freaky cool shit
pixeltuner's cool astral style
Kuraudo's beautifull painting
Vaejoun I simply love the mountain giant carving its child
D00dlebug love a living illustration
Samarmalik so dark
Tonic wicked design
Coreygodbey simply lovely work.
Mohdmubasshir'S crazy mutant beasty

Some more WIP shots of the spider wasp sculpture
-this is the first rough coat of paint.
I'm going for the very pale translucent white of newly hatched insect, with the true colours just surfacing underneath. so far not quite working but it will get there.
the first coat of glossy transparent acrylic will make a difference may do.
help give it a wet look more painting is needed first tho.
I want the cocoon to have a spun silken quality with a sandy colour to it, planning on working some cotton wool in with the next coat for a fibrous texture.
suggestions and criticisms always welcome.
There is a whole bunch more people belonging on the list above, both from new submissions, and from different areas of the site. such as the CHOW pieces. no time to update it right now.
Anyway here is the final paintwork on Spiderwasp, it is hard to photograph.
planning on making a rotating .gif of it over the weekend.
gotta get it in though so here we are.
OH MY GOD...I hate arachnids but I love yours for some reason. That is really good. If I may ask what kind of spider is it though. I am just curious.

it looks like a hermit crab-plant hybrid... nice... very vibrant coloring too... the texturing is also quite realistic... what material did you used...? is it papermache or clay...?

very nice to see some different medium here!
Make sure to make some really nice photos, it is all about presentation.
find a good setting that will benefit the object and colors. find a good light angle and shadow play. Having a good photography is art to and will certainly add more impression and justice to your work
cheers!

Wow thank you for the responses.
@ Wildcat0571 - thanks, it's an imaginary hybrid nightmare of wasp and spider. title is 'Maralinga Spider Wasp Hatching' Maralinga being a quite infamous nuclear test site in South Australia. As per the description my blog "This lucky hatchling was provided with two mice in it's cocoon by its mother, It has grown up big and strong"
/Shudder
@ Nironeru, Medium is Super Sculpey over a foil and wire armature, texture and detailed with acrylic paint & Ink, acrylic resin, and on the cocoon, PVA, cotton wool and ink. trying to achieve the look of being mid hatching, struggling free of it's cocoon.
@ Lillycat Thank you
@ Randis Thank you too. Personally I believe your pieces are a shoe in for top prize, they are awesome.
My Partner is a photographer so trying to make a Rotating .Gif of the piece to show it off properly, as a single image is difficult to pick.
thank you... I am also fond of clay modeling so I would love to learn from masters like you...
I'm a long way from claiming mastery, but I can point you to some good resources.
I'll dig up some good links from 'old massive favourites directory
in a little while.
Got to get STORK finished and get photos submitted.
*runs up and hugs you*
Yah! you're the 2nd 3D person i've found today!
And a spider w00t!
i love spiders so much even tho they freak me out for the first second i notice one. I enjoy how it really looks like it is starting to just wiggle its way out of there. Imagine if that was real. *shudders* awesome![]()

So Many good pieces in this competition,
Trying to update the list further up the page would be silly,
I'll let the final image thread speak for itself.
my pieces are there now.
Thanks for all the feedback
