DSG 1497: Character • JOHNNY CABOT, OTHERWORLD SAILOR, APPROACHES FANTASTICAL SHORES

    [ Is a Sci-Fantasy riff. ]

[ Focus on the character, but tell the story of the approach to an alien shore. ]

[ Literally, not figuratively, alien. ]

I'am not 100% sure what I was thinking, but I was actually supposed to draw a rowboat and a sailor also. The clock was just ticking away from me on this one. Took me about an hour. If I finnish this once in the future I'll post it up here someplace.
Eidt: I have now used about 2 hours on this, I think I have to move on and study some more before I'll try to finnish it off.

Decided to make 'fantastical' a bit relative, and thinking of more Galapogan more tham magical dragon kingdom, its a bit rough, but I'm not sure it'd actually benefit from colour particularly. Comments and criticism very much welcome.

EDIT: Just realised the rain is going the complete wrong way! Doh!

As a note, this is my first digital painting. I had originally planned to have a capsule bobbing in an alien sea, but I couldn't draw it the way I wanted. So I opted for interpretive otherworldlyness.

When John "Johnny" Cabot was forced into the landing capsule by a liquid oxygen explosion in the command capsule he knew it was bad. When the Aeronautics and Interstellar Transportaio Administration (AITA) got back to him he knew it was worse.

"You've got two days of air left for a 52 day trip" they told him. "We're so sorry, Johnny." they said "Can we do anything for you?". "Yeah," He said. "Point me at the Virga cluster and let me make history."

He reached the cluster 225.89 years later.

Not a 30 min SP now.. Though i've spent few extra hours, i'm glad with the result.

Johnny Cabot, the abbot, is a traveler, who brings his religion to the other worlds.

    Johnny Cabot

My first DSG in over a year I think. Hope I can keep it up longer this time.

As usual I misread the topic slightly and made Mr Cabot literally alien. You might not tell from his expression but he is extatic from finding a lost city ripe for plundering.

    Johnny Cabot

Upon returning to the crop planet Earth to harvest Icebergs, World Sailor Johnny Cabot was HORIFIED to discover that it had become completely infested with humans!

I'm pretty embarrassed by this, but I guess that's good, embarrassment is very motivational.
Some of these are so BA, ARTEATER, GYROBAN, SERAPH, FINALKNIGHT! I've got to go digital.

Evidently sir Cabot was not the best of sailors, but his misfortunes at sea brought him a great wealth of visual experiences.

Im going to do more to this, it needs more magic. I cleaned up the edges when i shouldnt have, now they look too flat. boo. His raft will also gain some personal effects.

I've changed this so much it might as well be uploaded twice!

Now Johnny is a spaceman who has had a similar amount of bad luck..

    Smile

well this challenge reminded me of a movie i love treasure planet which made me smile.
so I drew him on a space ship (quite literally) approaching a new planet.
far more cartoony than I wanted but I still like it and no I have no idea what he is o.O
    crit welcomed

    a quicky
The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

ALH - I like how you didn't put Johnny on some gigantic-super ship. It makes me laugh to think of a sailor who ended up in some crazy place due to bad navigation. Cool changes, too. I like the red in the sail.

Mitze, I like yours too! The ship has a rusty tone to it which is cool. I'm kind of confused why he's holding a torch in daylight though?

For some reason I found the first one looking best, I am not sure what for, but It was easier (for me) to let the imagination run wild on the first one.

ALH - that's great- it's pretty close to what I had in mind - Some forsaken spaceman drifting on the sea using his capsule's parachute as the sail. I also like the style.

Great job: Mitze, Final Knight, Seraph Fawkes, and Arteater - you guys all have work that stands out.

Thanks Gyroban for good words. I've liked lkjhgfdsa's, Mitze's and FunnyFace's ideas and techniques. Also thanks to ALH for both images - like the simplicity and the way spaceman drawn.
