    Skull WIP

This is a study of a skull from p266 of 'Gray's Anatomy'. As I was doing the lineart, I tried not to lift my pencil from the page, but you can see the places where I went into sketchy mode

A few quick sketches of Pumpkin Jack. I'm enjoying drawing him Also developing upon a previous thumbnail where Jack is perched on top of a large pumpkin, experimenting with his "skeletal" structure and trying to think of a better outfit for him rather than just a jumper and trousers.

Thanks for the comment! Looks like you're working hard to get better and on the right track. You might want to try this in place of posemaniacs for gesture drawing. It's sort of impressive that you can get down the gestures in such a short time, but I don't think limiting yourself to 10 seconds is necessary. Ten seconds gives you the right idea, instantly capturing the gesture without getting lost in detail. Try to do that with 30 seconds. Keep it up!

Just experimenting with different clothes for Jack. It started as a drawing in my sketchbook, but then I thought it would be easier to scan it into Photoshop and duplicated it as many times as I saw fit.

I liked the idea of Jack wearing a long coat and trousers tattered and torn. As I progressed, I thought that Jacks' clothes were beginning to look a bit Elizabethian, so I decided to see how that would look. I kinda like it.

Granted, he's beginning to look a bit like Billy the zombie from 'Hocus Pocus' but sod it I'm also making his stick-skeletal structure more like that of Jack Pumpkinhead from 'Return to Oz.'

My somewhat rushed Halloween picture. Sketched on paper, cleaned up in Photoshop and the rest was done in Sai.

I know his left leg looks weird, but his pelvis just consists of one thick stick.

Halloween may be over, but I've been wanting to do some drawings of Billy the zombie for a while now.

    Name: Billy Sketches.jpg

A few just-for-fun sketches after finishing that previous drawing. Billy Butcherson is from an old Disney movie called Hocus Pocus. He was the lover of the witch, Winnifred, until she caught him sporting with her sister, Sarah. Winnie killed Billy by poisoning him and then she stitched his mouth shut to prevent him revealing her magic secrets, even after his death. Winnie raises Billy from the grave 300 years later to force him to carry out her bidding.

Luckily, Billy isn't the shuffle-around-searching-for-brains-type zombie. He just wants to go back to sleep.

    I'm Here for your Entertainment...

I'm probably going to regret this later, but sod it XD

I was "inspired" to make this atrocity after watching a voice meme on YouTube by Canadian-rainwater, an artist on DeviantArt. One of the questions of the meme was 'What was the last thing you listened to?' and for an answer, she puts on her Clopin Halloween outfit and starts dancing to Adam Lamberts' For Your Entertainment!

It's been about 5 months since I last drew the Freak. I started drawing him again a couple of days ago and when I finished the top left drawing, I thought 'Who the hell is this?!' He looked so different from the last time I drew him. I did say in the past that he was due to change, but even I wasn't prepared for this!

As I continued, I started thinking that he was beginning to resemble the character Mani from Brotherhood of the Wolf, so I used some clips from the movie as a reference for the Freak's body shape (and hairline =P). I like the idea of his body being lean and muscular, but not hugely muscly.

I feel that his face looks a bit too human here, too pretty-like. I'm going to have to keep working on that.

Wow, the improvements from the first page are immense.

Keep drawing from reference (and life when possible! MAKE it possible!) and keep letting it inform your imaginative drawing, it's working wonders.

    Your characters are nice.

    Thank you, Hajime

A couple more uploads of the Freak, then I'll go onto something else.

I took one of the previous sketches, enlarged it in Photoshop and played around with the shading and burns. Hopefully they look less like overcooked pizza now.

I've been a bit of an artistic flibbertigibbet as of late. I've got so many things I want to draw that I find it hard to focus on just one and I keep hopping from project to project. I've got a skeleton waiting to be finished, Bitey is in mid-leap and I want to do a couple of comics as well. Everything is unfinished!

However, I do have a couple of kinda finished things...

I'm currently (slowly) working on a new comic for the Freak, and I'm quite pleased with how this particular frame turned out. I've never attempted to do a cityscape like this before. I still have a few issues regarding scale, however.

If you look closely, you can see the characters' outline as he jumps from the taller building. And I apologise for the corny shop name. I couldn't think of anything else The thicker lines on the right of the page were a few practice drawings for my 'Machamp' contest drawing. And those are bits of masking tape at the bottom of the page.

Recently, one of my mates on DeviantArt, Anime-tr-oblast-kurt, posted a journal asking people for help in designing the head of a fursuit that he's going to have made. The costume is of his Turkish wolf character, Arbuzan.

These are the initial sketches. I hate how that front view looks so derp.

Very nice sb here, I love your cartoony style
I really dig those pose studies, going to do some later on too!
    but...
In post #136, where are his nipples?
And the cell phone looks a bit curved, try to use a straight line for it (I know, it's hard, struggling with it myself too...)

Those were the only crits I could give ^^

Oh bugger! I can't believe I forgot them X( I don't suppose that saying he's a Disney character is a valid excuse, is it? Right, I won't forget them next time!

And I'm going to try my best to draw straight lines without going spazzy. I've just read about a drawing exercise to help with that: you draw a dot on a page, then draw a line heading towards it from another part of the page without looking at where the line started from. Simple enough, I suppose.

Thanks much for your input I greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. =] Wow, I can see that you've made some progress from page one to the most recent picture.

Hm, looking at the WIPs for Ezra there, I think the one in post #143 looks a bit more balanced, although the legs are a bit too short. For the edited leg, I would have tried to turn it a bit inwards, so that the knee would point towards the viewer.
His right arm (to our left) looks like it's a bit dislocated when the chest is turned like that. I don't know if you used a reference for the pose or not, but either trying the pose yourself or using a model can really help in finding out what feels awkward and what can work.

=] Let's both work on doing more studies and improving in 2011!
    Happy new year!
