i think you've done a pretty good job so far with the anatomy, although i'm not so sure about your composition. i think a more interesting camera angle would help a lot.
also, those tubes... what are they connected to?
right now they're just going into the hips... what are they doing there?
i would think about what they're connected to INSIDE the mermaid. what is their actual purpose ya know?
*i keep having more thoughts!
ok, i looked at your original sketch again. the more rough version, and i like the composition of that better. adding the bottom of the tank makes it feel so small and not very impressive.. in the original sketch you dont see that and it feels bigger. also your lines aren't perfectly straight in the original sketch, so your perspective feels more like 3 point, you corrected that in your cleanup but i think that makes your image feel flat and boring. i would make it 3 piont, THAT would definitely make this feel bigger and more impressive.
the other thought i had was to drop the arm thats closest to us a bit more to seperate it from the mermaids body, really exagerating her pose, arch her back a bit more giving a better silhouette. it would also help make her look a bit more sexy because you'd be seeing her lower back and butt.
