Hi! First post ever, let's present myself...

I'm 17 years old, from Spain (that may explain my bad English) and studying in art school (although the level here is quite low...)

I've been lurking CA.org for a year or so and finally decided to register and make a sketchbook. Because I'm so lazy and I think that being active in the community can make me less lazy.

I'm terrible. Critique encouraged.

Great work so far, the still life looks great as do the figure studies. Keep up the good work.

Nice start! When you're rendering, make sure that your lines are following the forms. Flat lines will make your drawing look too flat (like with your hands). You're making a great start though! Keep it up!

Here is a still life I did a moment ago and a bunch from posemaniacs (about 3 minutes each, I also have hundreds of the 30 seconds kind but I'm too lazy to upload)

Hay Ananda C thats a good start, with the still life's try to keep the rendering a little more consistent instead of using stroke marks try small circular strokes. and for the figure work you might wanna pick up Bridgman or Hogarth instead of posemaniacs.com theirs nothing wrong with using posemaniacs but i think its harder to teach yourself about figures both Bridgman and Hogarth kind of break it down and give you better ideas about figures

A year or two ago I went through Bridgman and Loomis stuff and didn't get much results.
I think I've never learnt a lot from books.
I made the biggest improvement in anatomy when I took up dancing and yoga last year - it really makes you aware of your body, range of movement, everything.

Today I've only drawn some skulls...

Love the skulls It's always good to define form with value rather than lines...too many lines flatten the overall image. Keep it up though because it's improving

for 17 I think you are at a pretty advanced stage. Just keep doing what your doing and you will be super awesome by your 20s. Your still life is good. Keep at it.

My sister studied art at a not a great school and it didn't help her at all..but a friend of
mine in the same school has improved a-lot!!
So it is realy all about you'r aproach and how much you draw.
So keep it up and draw

good start to a sketchbook, just keep those studies going and your lines will become more fluent and confident with time even though your lines are better than mine >>

I'm still alive and I'm going to update this as daily as I can, even if I only have shitty sketches (I hope I stop doing shitty sketches that way).
I'm also going to stick to recent things and I'm not going to resurrect schoolwork from last semester.

A painting (i had photoref but i tweaked it substantially, it's Zoe Jakes a very amazing tribal bellydancer. i think i messed up the likeness but...) and sketches from life, everything done this week.

I've been working on and off on this for a few days. it was looking fine to me but now on screen I'm noticing some mistakes...

I tried to do a master copy today. the original is by Jose de Ribera. i don't know if i'll finish it, there are too many things i have/want to do.
It turned out somewhat muddy though I expected it would be worse.

I'm resurrecting this again.

I hate university. Fine arts... so much bullshit there, it's discouraging. I haven't done almost anything valuable in the whole year, now that it's summer break I'm starting to work and I'm somewhat motivated again.
But I still have three more years of uni to go through and to quit doesn't seem like an option. ARGH.
