Fantasy Fairy tale Folklore Mythology

I'm looking for artists that art somehow reflects what I mentioned in the title. I enjoy the works of Frazetta, Rackham, Waterhouse and Blake. And i would prefer if people would not recommend artist who focus on Greek mythology.

I saw a lecture about the history of fantasy art by Charles Vess, and I wrote down a few of the names he mentioned. He said he might do a feature on Tor.com with more information.

Have you tried to draw some yourself, because I find it interesting, and I have asked a lot of questions to people in Ireland. It is interesting just the read what they have to say, and your mind can paint a nice picture. I have studied a lot of things that people find strange, and something I know more about, but find people can not except. Even things I added to Wiki has been removed. You would be surprised how much of mythology started in ancient egypt. Like the Leprechauns started with Bes of ancient egypt. Leprechauns are male, and fairies are female, at least that is what I was told. I have read folklore about their move to Ireland. Some things about Snowmen seem strange, like walking barefoot in the snow, when Washingtons soldiers did it, their feet froze and split open. So I don't think snowmen could walk very far barefooted. I am currently working on Gremlins as like shape shifters that morph into half cat looking figures, but kind of blurry looking while they are changing. It makes it hard to draw what they look like at one point. I could narrow down your chance of actually seeing one. You could find life has things that people will never see, or able to find remains to prove they ever exsist. Like ghost can be proven in other ways, but proof of the Gremlin will never be caught.

Do you know if there is any good source material to look at that Vess mentioned and if info did go up on Tor when would it be?

Nearly all fantasy art is inspired by religion-become-mythology, so I'd suggest googling art/mythology/religion among the eskimo, inuit, pre-invasion Americans, Aussie indigenous, and Asian, Polynesian, and north and east Euros. These groups all have mythologies and religious groundings that are totally unlike "western" cultures. And the art and artists interpreting these beliefs are often incredible.

I don't know about Tor. If you’re ever at comiccon he does the same lecture there. Here are some of the books he mentioned.

Also, Franklin Booth is one of my favorites. I never see him described as a fantasy artist, but some of it is fantasy. I'm attaching one of his.

As I was writing this I started searching for more information about Franklin Booth, I got a bit carried away and I found a few more fantasy illustrators.

I suggest Brian Froud. He did concept art for The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. If you haven't heard of it already, I'd look up the book Brian Froud's World of Faerie, you'd love the art in it. http://www.worldoffroud.com/www/main.cfm
